I have always felt drawn to helping others. This desire led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Psychology & Child Development from Utah State University & later a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Baylor University. I'm trained in TF-CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I'm here to serve you, to support your goals, to see the best in you, & envision the life you can still create no matter what you’ve been through. My approach to healing begins with helping you build a foundational understanding of how your past experiences continue to impact your present & how you can move forward.

Life is full of challenges that bring both joy and pain. There are times when painful experiences such as loss, trauma, depression, anxiety, addictions, transitions, relationships and more can leave us feeling lost, overwhelmed, and even hopeless. When we experience such difficulties, it is necessary to reach out and connect with others who can help us feel heard, empathize with our pain, and help us learn and grow. If you are needing this kind of connection, I can help you discover your inner strength and build resilience for coping with such difficulties.

Life can be challenging and throw things at us that feel unimaginable. I believe that people are also in charge of their own lives and can change if they put their minds to it. Feelings of enoughness, connection, and belonging are crucial to a well rounded and fulfilling life. People often underestimate and miscalculate their capability and value and want to feel seen, heard and important. I work with teens and adults who are working through depression, anxiety, trauma, attachment issues, family issues and addiction. I have extensive experiencing in helping heal the family system and helping individuals find their best selves.

Life can be crazy great, yet crazy HARD! Sometimes, despite your best efforts, things don't go as planned. In fact, sometimes life gets completely out of control. Like now. Right? Otherwise you wouldn't be taking this difficult step of seeking help. You aren't sure what happened or what went wrong, but you are sure that this isn't what you thought this season of your life would look like. Our 1st session of therapy won't fix the problems or make them go away...in fact, our 4th session likely won't make the problem go away either, but it will help you find the answers, courage and strength within yourself to keep going and heal.

*** Practice Closed *** Life is complicated and messy! And life is especially hard right now. My passion is helping people create and live the life they want, getting through the mess, and healing from trauma. I have found that most of us do not go through life unscathed - we've all been hurt and we all did the best we could with what we had at the time. I love working with complex people and value the teamwork in the healing process. Together, we will help you heal and live with your whole heart.

Life is a challenge at the best of times. You try to do everything right; no matter how hard you try, it’s never enough. You constantly feel terrible inside. You think the worst about yourself and never believe others when they compliment or praise you. You constantly worry that they wouldn't want to stick around if they truly knew you and what’s inside. Finding a therapist is hard, especially now with long wait lists or never being called back. Contact me today for a free 15min consultation. I have immediate openings, and we can determine if we are a good match.

Trying to figure out the next step can be overwhelming and lonely when we feel stuck. Whether we are trying to navigate relationships, personal and religious beliefs, or sexual/gender orientation- it can be hard! I truly believe you are the expert of your life, and believe the answers are within you. Sometimes we may know where we want to get to but feel the next steps to getting there are unsteady, unfamiliar or not even visible at the moment. Having a place to be able to emotionally process and break down realistic and meaningful steps can help to find clarity and find coping strategies that fit for you.

Hi there, I'm Matthew! For the last eight years I have worked in the mental health profession in various roles and capacities. I have been a youth mentor, a group facilitator, a child welfare worker, and have been working in family, group, and individual therapy. Opening up and being vulnerable can be a challenge for all of us, especially as we begin to find ourselves. We all need someone in our corner cheering us on, who is also willing to shed light on our parts that may be holding us back. I am a clinician focused on embracing and celebrating who we are, while identifying areas for growth. There is no greater privilege than witnessing a client transform into someone who loves their authentic self. Adolescence and young adulthood are times for exploration and growth, I look forward to meeting each version of my clients.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
