Life brings with it challenges and stresses for all of us that, at times, make the journey seem frightening and hopeless. Anxiety, depression, grief, anger, and trauma find their way into ALL of our lives to one degree or another. When we experience such times, we long for a deeper connection with our loved ones but are unable to find it. The good news is that we don’t need to suffer alone and there IS hope for healing and connection!

If you spoke to me the way you speak to yourself, would we be friends? You know the answer. You don't see yourself clearly, but the truth will set you free. You're not as stuck as you think you are. The way you shame and reject yourself comes from deep negative beliefs and experiences. I want to help you liberate your life, so you can become the hero of your life. Our time together will be safe and a battle; we will wrestle out the lies and false beliefs that have held you captive, so that you can transform your life into one you are excited to live. You deserve a life filled with peace and purpose; to me, this is liberation.

Some of the most difficult and scary steps to take are those beginning steps of change. Often times these steps are out of one's comfort zone, and the first instinct is to want to hide, run or give up entirely. Life never promises or guarantees a pain free existence! However, with first steps and the courage to try, there can be a guarantee to oneself, to learn to take on challenges, struggles, pain, hurt, hang-ups, habits, addictions, etc. At this point its ok and have acceptance of one's difficulties and to embrace it. It's possible with the right guidance, support, and building of skills to rebuild what's been broken/is breaking.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
