I use a trauma-informed and attachment-based approach.
I deeply enjoy working with adults with ADHD, anxiety, and/or depression, and those who want to gain a deeper understanding of who they are. You may have the experience of feeling disconnected from others or difficulty knowing how you bring value to the world. If you have (or suspect you have) ADHD, you may feel overwhelmed from constantly trying to fit into a box that wasn't made for you. Together, we will explore your struggles, values, history, and strengths to cope with challenges and begin to feel more connected with yourself and those you care about.

I am a professional that most find extremely easy to talk to. I have honed the skill of therapeutic maneuverability which means my clients get what they need in therapy, whether it is someone to listen to them and help process thoughts or to give them tools and help develop skills to be the best possible version of themselves. I am very validating and edifying at times, but I don't sugarcoat what needs to be said. I see the capacity of people without judgement, what is important to me is where you are and where you want to be going. I have skills in working with individuals, couples, and families from all sorts of backgrounds.

I have experience working with premarital and newlywed couples, anxiety, depression, LGBTQ+ issues, transitional periods, betrayal and more. I strive to understand people within their context from a systemic perspective. In therapy, I recognize that while some things require change, others simply require acceptance. My hope is to work with you to increase compassion and connection in all aspects of life. We all need help sometimes, and sometimes just getting a little bit of help makes all the difference. I'm here to help individuals, couples, and families from systemic, emotionally focused, acceptance based perspectives.

I became a psychologist because I believe in the power of genuine connection. I value addressing how past experiences, family dynamics and cultural influences contribute to belief systems, identities and behavioral patterns that may be causing distress in relationships and inhibiting personal growth. I also see neuro/psychological testing as a tool to better understand individual’s phenomenological experience, to provide clarification of personal strengths and struggles and to guide growth by offering individualized tools, skills and resources.

Working with individuals experiencing anxiety and/or depression is my passion. I want to offer tools and coping skills to help live a fulfilling life despite the challenges that depression and anxiety bring. I have specifically noticed a rise in anxiety and depression amongst teens. I love helping this age group in giving them the best start at life possible, and assist them in building self-confidence and love for themselves as they go through this exciting stage of self-discovery. Helping women and young women discover their value and worth is the greatest reward in this life.

My passion for psychology comes from the true joy and fulfillment of connecting with others. Psychological change can be hard and take on many forms, but we will work toward cultivating self-compassion, psychological flexibility, and resiliency, as well as develop actionable skills to specifically target your concerns. I largely draw from principles of mindfulness, neuroscience, and cognitive-behavioral therapies (ACT, CBT, DBT) and tailor my interventions based on the latest research in the mental health field.

Few of us get through this life without experiencing some trauma. Yet we all have the capacity to experience post-traumatic growth with the help of therapist whose role is to remove barriers that prevent us from moving past our past. When clients leave my office they have improved capacity for facing life head-on. Finding the right therapist is about “fit,” which is about feeling affirmed and validated for who you are.

Life is hard, and we all face resistance whether it be mental illness, trauma, loss, or just the ups and downs of life. I believe people are inherently resourceful and resilient, and my role is to provide you with the tools to tap into your strengths to find healing and peace. I graduated from the University of Utah with a Master of Social Work and graduate certificate in Women's Health. I also have a Spanish-language certificate and speak Spanish at an advanced level. I enjoy working with the LGBTQ population, faith transitions, eating disorders, anxiety, grief and loss, and disability and chronic illness.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
