I aim to understand each client’s unique experience with pain and struggle. I am committed to helping my clients explore the deeper “roots” of their psychological concerns. My work focuses on an integrative and insight-oriented approach to reduce symptoms and deepen my clients understanding of themselves and their relationships. I believe that past experiences, including trauma, loss, and dysfunctional relationship dynamics, hold great bearing over how we interact with the world today, and processing these experiences is key to finding freedom and meaning in their occurrence. I currently have openings for sex therapy clients.

I typically follow attachment-based therapy models.
We all experience difficult times in life, and we all need connection through relationships. I believe therapy is one avenue to process and explore painful situations while working on improving relationships with partners, parents, children, etc. Our experiences impact how we communicate and perceive others’ messages.

Each of us have beliefs and experiences that impact our ability to form meaningful relationships, accomplish goals, or accept ourselves. My hope is to help the individuals, couples and families I work with challenge these negative beliefs and guide them in using skills to develop a stronger sense of self and more stable relationships. Over the past decade I have specifically worked with adolescents, young adults and their families. I love this stage of life, the change that can take place is amazing if given the right tools. Balancing independence and connection for individuals and family is one of my main goals in therapy.

Whether it be mental health issues, trauma, addiction or anything else that causes us to feel lack of control in our lives, it is incredibly isolating. Unfortunately, isolation causes all of those issues to just get worse and worse; and we seem to lose ourselves along the way. It is demoralizing to look at our lives and feel like our true selves are just out of reach. When this occurs, we can’t help but look in the mirror and just feel broken or, at the very least, desperate for change. While working with me you will experience the healing power of connection, and an opportunity to fully examine yourself without judgment.

Experiencing deep hurt, frustration, or loneliness in your marriage can feel like your whole world is collapsing. As a therapist, I am here to meet you and your partner where you are without judgment. I empower you to bravely explore uncomfortable emotions within your relationship, understand your own internal worlds, and show up in authentic and connecting ways. This can be hard–as it requires vulnerability, honesty, and practice–but I believe in you! Some of the greatest hope and healing I have witnessed transpire between partners in the therapy room.

My personal philosophy on trauma informed psychotherapy is based on western & eastern influences & focuses on a three phase model developed by Dr. Judith Herman-stabilization, reprocessing, & re-connection. In therapy with individuals, I work together to honor your unique life history & explore the impact it has on your functioning. In my work I have discovered that amazingly, the natural healing capacity of the human brain runs so deep that even the parts of our lives that are causing us difficulty can guide us toward healing.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
