I'm here to work with anyone who feels like a misfit and outcast in this community. Especially LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent folk. Also all sexual, relationship, and gender orientations and all body types. I see you! I welcome you! You are accepted as you are! Feeling different can often lead to trauma, and trauma can lead to feeling misunderstood and hopelessness. I'm here for it all. I'm here to help you heal and thrive in this wonderful, crazy world. I also work with couples navigating mixed-faith marriages, non-monogamy, intimacy, and communication barriers.

I work with individuals and families utilizing attachment-based practices, EMDR, and other experiential modalities.
I believe everyone has what it takes to find joy, peace, and love in their lives through vulnerability and connection. After working through my own trials, I discovered that I wanted to help others and decided to become a therapist. I found a love for listening to others and trying to understand how their stories have shaped their view of themselves and the world. I enjoy connecting with people by encouraging them to explore new ways to find happiness within themselves and their relationships.

If you have hit a wall in your relationships, with your health, or are struggling with past trauma and self worth, it's time to collaborate with a caring provider who can help transform the heaviness that interferes with your sense of purpose and connection. Using your insight into yourself and my insight into psychology and wellness, we will work together to identify the patterns that perpetuate pain and stagnation, shifting you toward healing emotional wounds, and creating powerful strategies for recovery. Serious depression, anxiety, the breakdown of relationships or individual health, call for heart centered attention.

Imagine if life with your partner could go back to being as exciting as when you were first together. Soft smiles when you catch each other’s eyes, staying up all night talking, and dreaming of what the future might hold. All too often couples get trapped in conflict, and that pulls them away from the happiness they used to know. They begin to fight constantly or start to avoid their partner altogether. This can lead to further stress and even more conflict. You begin to wonder how you got here, where is the partner you used to know, and if you will ever be able to get back to where you were.

Ever feel like you're on the outside looking in? Maybe it's your gender, your weight, your sexual orientation, your race, your spiritual beliefs, your past experiences... Somehow you just don't fit. You tell yourself if you could find the right person, or look a certain way, or just forget about what happened to you, you'd break through. Instead, all these reasons pile up and separate you from the life you "should" be living. Sound familiar? I work with clients every day who struggle to connect, and I see how the loneliness eats at them. They're so desperate for change, but they feel trapped by old patterns.

In 30+ years as a couples therapist, I've helped many couples work through problems to create the kind of partnership they truly want. Most couples tell me that they want to feel connected with their partner again; to stop the 'same old arguments' from cycling over and over; to stop living like roommates; to end the painful silences; to feel heard and understood; and to feel hopeful, and happy again.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
