Counseling has always been that one unique ability of mine that I felt was a higher calling. The encouragement I get from watching clients meet major milestones continues to increase my passion as a therapist. I am a firm believer that there is no shame in asking for help. Regardless of how major or minor your struggle may be, having someone to talk to makes a massive difference. As a therapist, I strive to provide a nonjudgmental environment that allows clients to feel safe and secure. I work with anxiety, depression, loss, and trauma, in addition to youth, couples, LGBTQ+, and individuals.

I am passionate about providing quality mental health treatment to individuals, couples, and families using a trauma informed approach. I have found in my clinical experience that many sources of wounding, disconnect, and suffering in relationships are connected to attachment injuries and trauma. Such experiences can leave us feeling anxious, confused, angry, stuck, and isolated. My belief is that therapy is a an important tool to regaining as well as reclaiming meaning and purpose in our lives.

In a stressful fast paced society, it is difficult to find a person and a safe place to share your story. With compassion and empathy, I create a safe haven for clients to tell their truth. Part of the therapeutic process is working together, in a non- judgmental way, exploring the roots of the problem and how these issues are currently impacting your life. Overall, Therapy is an excellent way to create new narratives, habits, chapters, and to heal from past memories and traumatic events. Let me be part of your journey and help you reach your goal of coping effectively with life’s challenges.

When you come into my office you don’t need to wear a mask or pose as your best self, because I want to help the part of you that’s struggling and that feels misunderstood. Instead, let me help you slow down and take a look at where you actually are. Let my office be somewhere you don’t have to pretend or wear the “it’s fine” mask. Too often we say the phrase “I should…” But how often does that actually get us where we want to go? Why don’t we try something different, where we stop ourselves from “should-ing” on our lives.

All humans need connection, love, support, and a safe place to be their authentic self. My value and understanding of this need is shown in my approach in everyday life along with my approach with all clients. I believe in meeting the client where they are and allowing each person to be their genuine authentic self in their journey of healing. I value every person’s perspective and meet them where they are. I value the nature of inner wounds and create a mutual plan for healing tailored to each client.

You look at your life and think, is this really all there is? Because, you think differently, you see the world differently, and you feel confused or in conflict. This may cause you distress in relationships, turmoil within yourself, and disconnection from the world around you. You may engage in unhealthy coping skills such as lashing out in anger, school or work avoidance, substance use, and disengagement from social life and family. Your culture, religion, and family tells you to do it one way, but something inside is telling you differently. Or, you’ve tried “their” way, it doesn’t fit and you feel like you’re barely holding on.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
