There is no shortage of problems or stress in today’s world. You deserve to be able to work through yours with someone by your side. I’m a firm believer that therapy needs to be tailored for individual experiences. I always strive to provide my clients with the best possible approach in a welcoming, relaxed environment where you can truly be yourself. I’ve found that humor can be a powerful tool within the healing process when used appropriately. Working on yourself is never easy, but you should be able to enjoy the smile-worthy moments.

Have you been experiencing a gap between the reality you are living and the life you want to live? Throughout our lives, we will face constant exposure to reality gaps— the reality we live versus the reality we want. Because of this, feelings of pain are inevitable. It’s my belief that feeling pain, unhappiness, and dissatisfaction with your life doesn’t mean you’re defective; it means you’re human. Despite this human condition, psychological suffering is not your life’s purpose. Living a rich, full, and meaningful life is.

I can help you work towards the real issue right away and help you start feeling better from the first session. First thing I want to say is that I am so sorry your heart is feeling a consistent pain...This pain is very important to me and I am here for you. We can make it. A broken heart is the root of most individual and relationship problems. The brains job is to reduce pain and numb the heart. I believe that you can learn all the coping skills in the world, however, if your heart is broken, those skills usually will not work. Once the heart feels soothed and understood then the mind may accept new solutions and skills.

I like to come at therapy kind of like I would a drummer at a jam session. I'm there to find a groove with another voice. I want to communicate with you and help you to open up and learn to express yourself. We will seek understanding first and then we will find a way to encourage healing and growth that is unique to you and builds a stronger identity. I am strengths-based and I like to find existing skills to help a client build a new way of thinking and interacting with their body. This is also a very effective way of beginning the process of healing symptoms of PTSD in conjunction with other evidence based trauma treatments.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
