I specialize in trauma, domestic abuse and addiction. I also help clients that struggle with depression, anxiety, relational issues and interpersonal struggles. I use a comprehensive, integrative approach to healing (EMDR) as well as CBT, DBT and Mindful practices.EMDR is a systematic process of healing that promotes emotional stability by helping to free the mind from past thoughts, memories and behaviors that are present in daily life. The mindful approach to emotional healing works through conscious change in perspective. Being consciously aware of unconscious thoughts helps in the process of change. This mindful practice changes how you view yourself and the world around you.

All humans need connection, love, support, and a safe place to be their authentic self. My value and understanding of this need is shown in my approach in everyday life along with my approach with all clients. I believe in meeting the client where they are and allowing each person to be their genuine authentic self in their journey of healing. I value every person’s perspective and meet them where they are. I value the nature of inner wounds and create a mutual plan for healing tailored to each client.

Helping my clients achieve success is what brings me joy. I have been a therapist for over 30 years and I have worked with just about any problems or challenges you can imagine. My experience helps me be perfectly calm and hopeful no matter what you bring to the table. I can offer perspective that less experienced helpers simply can't. And I absolutely love what I do, so I'm looking forward to seeing how I can help you.

When you come into my office you don’t need to wear a mask or pose as your best self, because I want to help the part of you that’s struggling and that feels misunderstood. Instead, let me help you slow down and take a look at where you actually are. Let my office be somewhere you don’t have to pretend or wear the “it’s fine” mask. Too often we say the phrase “I should…” But how often does that actually get us where we want to go? Why don’t we try something different, where we stop ourselves from “should-ing” on our lives.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
