Ever felt like you needed to be "stronger" or "try harder" to make life better or easier? You're not alone. It's a popular belief that if we were just a little "stronger", a little more "perfect" then life would magically fall into place. But here's the thing – it's not about needing more strength or perfection (which is unattainable!). It's about having the right tools, the right support, and the right help. And that's where I come in – I'm here to provide you with the tools and support you need to live life the way you want to.

Hi there! Her Wellness Therapy specializes in treating identifying women experiencing PTSD, depressive, anxiety symptoms and more. Therapy can be very helpful if you're in need of general resources and support, and is essential if you're suffering from a mental health disorder. When we experience trauma, we in a sense stay frozen in time, and often form unhelpful beliefs which keep us stuck. The clinicians at Her Wellness are specifically trained to help you get unstuck and heal. We truly get it, and care.

Trying to figure out the next step can be overwhelming and lonely when we feel stuck. Whether we are trying to navigate relationships, personal and religious beliefs, or sexual/gender orientation- it can be hard! I truly believe you are the expert of your life, and believe the answers are within you. Sometimes we may know where we want to get to but feel the next steps to getting there are unsteady, unfamiliar or not even visible at the moment. Having a place to be able to emotionally process and break down realistic and meaningful steps can help to find clarity and find coping strategies that fit for you.

Everyone has a sense of personal identify. How do you think about yourself? What is important to you? Identities are often imposed or at the very least encouraged by environmental or cultural forces. As a child, were you routinely told, "You can do it!,” or were you more often told; “You can’t do anything right?” The things we hear as children are usually the very things that create our sense of self. Early in life, sense of self is associated with security, protection, and acceptance. If our identity is strongly developed in the early years of life, this helps to protect us against the challenges in life.

Hi there, my name is Candi. One of my favorite quotes about life is by James Baldwin, which says, “Not everything that is faced can be changed but nothing can be changed until it is faced.” Life is too short to let trauma control us, to be anxious, depressed or angry all the time or to struggle alone in relationships. Therapy may not be the most comfortable experience, but it can be life changing. I want you to be able to find meaning and purpose and work through emotional pain so that your self-worth, relationships and other areas of life thrive.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
