I strongly believe that people already have the tools and capabilities they need to work through life’s challenges, and they sometimes just need a little help and guidance along the way. I am excited to provide that guidance as I work with you to manage mental health, better your relationships, and find joy in life again. I am passionate about working with couples and adults and am looking forward to providing a safe space for you to find peace and healing. I value warmth and laughter and love bringing that into the therapy space.

I have over 20 years experience working and growing with the continually developing mental health field. I believe in the immovable strength that all people have within them. Trauma, pain, and disheartenment are all part of the human experience. We are all connected by these experiences, and our abilities to overcome life’s greatest challenges. Therapy is not a "one size fits all" approach and I believe strongly in my ability to work with the diversity of mental health issues.

For the past 11 years, I have worked with adolescents and their families in residential treatment and outpatient therapy. This time has only deepened my empathy and understanding for individuals that endure very difficult life circumstances. I admire those seek help and healing. A strong relationship is the foundation of therapy. I am especially skilled at building the trust necessary to address complex behavioral and emotional issues. I especially enjoy helping children, adolescents, and their parents create safety in their homes, improve communication, change negative patterns, and believe that they can heal.

We ‌like‌ ‌to‌ ‌meet‌ ‌people‌ ‌where‌ ‌they‌ ‌are. ‌Trauma can sometimes leave us wondering‌ ‌“what‌ ‌is‌ ‌wrong‌ ‌with‌ me?“ We believe a better question is‌ ‌“what‌ ‌happened‌ ‌to‌ ‌you?” ‌In our practice, we view clients in that way. ‌Everyone‌ ‌has‌ ‌a‌ ‌story,‌ ‌a‌ ‌story‌ ‌that‌ ‌makes‌ ‌them‌ ‌unique. ‌Our interest is in understanding what the story is and how to use a‌ ‌story‌ ‌as‌ ‌a‌ ‌strength‌ ‌rather‌ ‌than‌ ‌a‌ ‌fault. ‌Even though it seems easier said than done, and it also takes time, we believe any client, from kids to adults, can get there with patience and understanding. Play therapy helps that healing process.

Have you ever looked at your life and thought, “How did I get here?” Sometimes life feels hard, overwhelming, and chaotic. Maybe you just don’t know where to start or you feel lost. Maybe you’re embarrassed that you can’t handle things on your own or like you don’t know who to ask for help. Perhaps you're going through a rough patch or you're looking to improve your relationships with friends, family, or partner. Or, maybe your child is struggling with anger, sadness, or anxiety.

I base my approach to therapy on exploring your unique life story and how it is impacting your current thoughts, feelings and behavior. My goal as a therapist is to walk beside you on the path to recovery from both the large and small traumas inherent in the human experience. I have found that the greatest success in therapy comes as clients build healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships by identifying and reframing the unhealthy and inaccurate beliefs that lead to behavior.

Feeling stuck in life? Struggling with compulsive behavior? Battling sexual addiction and the shame that accompanies it? Suffering from traumatic betrayal in your relationship? These are heavy issues for most therapists to treat, much less trying to navigate them on your own. You deserve support and guidance from a therapist who is not only familiar with these issues, but also has over 15 years of counseling experience working with teens, adults, couples and partners.

Throughout this human experience, we often need support when we feel lost, afraid, or stuck. I believe in every client's ability to connect with their inner wisdom, identify their strengths, and develop a deeper understanding of themselves.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
