I have learned that it doesn't really matter if these limiting circumstances were brought on by yourself or others, if they were intentional or unintentional consequences of past or present behaviors, or if they are randomly introduced. Regardless, they are absolutely frustrating, painful, and time consuming. I am honored to work with individuals and families who are seeking professional support in these times.

My treatment approach places an emphasis on the mind-body relationship and is both experiential and pragmatic. I specialize in the treatment of mood and behavior-related disorders as well as culture-based identity conflict. I work with families, adolescents, teens, and individuals to help them develop deeper connections to themselves, and stronger more fulfilling relationships with others, resulting in increased vitality, improved quality of life, and joy. Overcoming our trials and our weaknesses is one of the hardest things we can do in life. Whether it be individually, as a couple, or as a parent, facing our challenges will be our only path to happiness. There is no "around" the struggles of life, there is only through. Without a navigating source, the path often feels impossible to find. I believe in people's ability to grow, to change and live in a way that leaves no regrets. As a therapist I work with an individuals unique life experiences to help heal and grow. My experiences as a mental health professional are diverse. Working with individuals that have survived complex trauma to the day to day life stressors that are hard to adjust to. Many have thoughts or feelings that there is "no way out" or "I can't do this anymore". I try to help honor, understanding, and releasing our uncomfortable or confusing cognitions, emotions and behavioral patterns through compassionate, supportive and directness. I've been blessed to be trained and work with some amazing people in a range of techniques.

I consider the therapy process a courageous and hallowed experience. It is not easy to share pain, life struggles, and vulnerability with another person. I try to make that process as safe as possible while also facilitating a brave space where one can courageously face difficulties in healing ways. The framework of my practice is honoring and developing compassion for all diverse lived experiences. Every person has a diverse heritage, background, and identity and I strive to work within that context to aid people in their healing process.

We all go through challenges, but the level of struggle we face is different. Confiding in someone with compassion, empathy, and deep understanding is everything when navigating life’s struggles. Amy is a CMHC-I, who is graduating with her Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in May 2024. Amy graduated with Honors with her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Utah Valley University (2022), and has continued on her path to become a clinical therapist.

Dr. Spencer is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), an AAMFT approved supervisor and an owner and clinical director of Zest for Life Counseling. He has more than a decade of experience working with individuals, couples and families. Dr. Spencer utilizes evidenced based practices and specializes in working with trauma, grief, and couples on the brink of divorce. Dr. Spencer completed a Bachelors degree in Family Studies from Weber State University, a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Oklahoma State University, and a Doctorate in Human Development and Family Science also from Oklahoma State University.
