Immediate Availability- Life can be challenging and because of this we are not meant to go through it alone. You might be working through a lifetime of depression and anxiety, recovering from past trauma, learning to create healthy boundaries, or healing from infidelity. These topics can be heavy to process and sometimes we need somebody to walk through the darkness with us. If you can relate to this, then you are in the right place. There is hope and light ahead. I will work with you from a non judgmental place to help you better understand your trials and move toward a better, more fulfilling life.

I work from the idea that good mental health comes from and is strengthened by healthy relationships. Anxiety and depression are never isolated to the individual. Mental and emotional struggles connect to imbalanced coping and the ways we develop and maintain connections with one another. We will address most challenges through the CBT method, but my skills have developed over my 19 plus years as a therapist with adaptation to client needs, including Brainspotting. My clients experience direct, attentive, warm, and caring dialog with a safe and accepting presence. I work with individuals, couples and families.

Are you plagued with “if only?”: If only I had the patience to deal with my child’s tantrums. If only I had more time to be a good parent. If only I could explain to others about my child’s difficulties. If only I had support. The if only can be overwhelming when dealing with a child that seems different from others of his or her age group. Each child is special and unique. Allow me to guide your child and your family to a better understanding of the unique strengths and qualities they are capable of.

I specialize in working with individuals, couples, and working with teens and their parents. I know it can be difficult to navigate relationships, to feel connected to your partner, to experience depression and anxiety, to be faced with faith challenges, to not know how to deal with a past trauma, and to experience feelings of worthlessness and confusion with who you really are. It can feel difficult to know what steps to take to find peace and balance again. I believe in the ability to change as individuals, couples, and families and desire to meet you where you're at so you can get to where you want to be.

I have always felt drawn to helping others. This desire led me to pursue an undergraduate degree in Psychology & Child Development from Utah State University & later a Masters in Clinical Social Work from Baylor University. I'm trained in TF-CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, and Solution-Focused Therapy. I'm here to serve you, to support your goals, to see the best in you, & envision the life you can still create no matter what you’ve been through. My approach to healing begins with helping you build a foundational understanding of how your past experiences continue to impact your present & how you can move forward.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
