In our therapy space, I see you as your own person, with your own constellation of identities, needs, and areas for growth. I will prioritize cultivating a place where you can bring your whole self and practice vulnerability in a safe space. Together, in collaboration, we can explore the layers of you along with your past, present, and future to understand how you can move towards becoming the person you want to be, heal the parts of you that hurt, and grow past the adversities you face. In our therapy space, we will explore your emotions, learn about deeper parts of you, and challenge things that no longer serve you.

Trauma? Infidelity? Desire personal growth? Letting go of unhealthy or destructive ways of thinking - even when we know they aren't working - can be difficult and hurtful. With support, however, even the most challenging issues can be explored and addressed to help create a clearer path to the life/relationship you choose. Every person comes to therapy with a beautifully unique cultural background and personal history. I celebrate these individual differences. Ask about my specialized training for treating trauma! I am also a Board approved Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in Texas.

Relationships tend to be the key to most people's joy in life, and yet something so many of us struggle with. If you are looking to grow deeper and more meaningful connections in your life, you are in the right place. I help people understand how the problematic ways we interact with people today likely relate to significant relationships in the past. Once identified, I help you to practice new and effective ways of being in relationship that maximizes connection, heals your past (EMDR, IPF protocol, etc.), and invites more joy in to your future. If this sounds like what you are looking for, please explore more of my website.

Taking the first step to initiate therapy can be hard as facing our problems may feel scary and challenging. Therefore, I try to create a safe space for clients and make this process as smooth as possible. My approach to therapy is to help individuals build insight and self-understanding into their difficulties and patterns, and help them move from feeling “stuck or lost” to feeling encouraged and empowered to make the changes they want and need to have a fulfilling and satisfying life. In sessions with me, you will find warmth, support, empathy, genuineness and honesty, a splash of humor, as well as some challenging conversations.

You have taken a very courageous step in seeking therapy. I have counseled children, families, and individuals at all stages of life. Over the course of my career, I have worked in urban, rural, and suburban communities, under government-funded grants, and through private funding in homes, schools, and residential treatment. Using an integrative approach that is trauma-informed, evidence-based, and family systems oriented, I draw from attachment theory, neurobiology research, systems theory, cognitive-behavioral theory, and existentialism. I also am an approved clinical supervisor in Maryland.

I meet my clients where they are, in the framework that serves their presenting concern the most effectively. Adjustment to a transition, relationship challenges, onset of a mental illness, or peaks and valleys of mental illness management can disrupt or interrupt functioning in a variety of areas. A therapeutic relationship can deepen understanding and skills to move through a moment. A therapeutic relationship can build acceptance and integration of something that will always be part of our makeup.

My approach is rooted in the belief that no matter what a person has going on, there is always an internal compass guiding them towards integration. In my sessions, I draw on Depth/Jungian frameworks, Buddhism, parts work, and polyvagal theory. I also incorporate creativity therapy and non-verbal therapies, such as dreams and somatics.

Talk therapy forms the foundation for my all work. Your story is important. When clients seek to deepen their healing process I help them take the next steps through somatically based therapies. The integration of bodymind (soma) can help clients conquer depression, recover from trauma, relieve anxiety, cope with limiting medical and physical conditions, and increase their capacity to embrace life. As an Exercise Specialist, I have been helping people overcome back problems for over 26 years with my Active EASE program. I also lead InterPlay, a seriously fun way to come at things from a different direction.

I often work with clients who struggle to accept and feel compassion for their whole self. Sometimes that can look like trying to shut out painful experiences, worrying that something is "wrong" with you, or struggling to connect with your true desires and feelings. I offer clients a warm space to process the injuries they carry from the broader world and from the intimate world of family, friends, and other relationships. I invite clients to bring the complete selves, even the parts that are hard to be with. I strive to provide the tools and support to help clients connect to a fuller sense of aliveness and groundedness.

Have you endured a painful or sudden loss? Are you experiencing tremendous difficulty adjusting to death, illness, or other significant life transition? Do you feel scared- or even convinced- that things will never improve? Have loved ones tried to reach out, but you don't feel like they understand your situation? There's a good chance that you are tired of "being strong" or tired of feeling alone. Likewise, there's a good chance that you need some emotional support during this trying time.

Howdy! I'm thrilled that you are starting the process of looking for a therapist! No two people are alike, so I don’t use a cookie-cutter approach to the work we do together in counseling. While I pull from multiple modes of therapy, it is common for me to use tools from biofeedback, mindfulness, CBT, IFS, and more. My style is equitable and relational, with previous clients saying that my humorous, laid-back approach to therapy put them at ease quickly. There is no power hierarchy: I am the expert in mental health; you are the expert in your life. We need both to have a successful and productive counseling relationship!

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
