I provide therapy to individuals, adolescents, couples and families, using emotion focused, attachment-based techniques to help clients change negative thoughts and behavior patterns.
Each person’s story is unique based on their own life’s experiences. Difficult life challenges can make you feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed and “stuck”. Are negative thoughts and feelings causing you to doubt yourself, interfering with your ability to find solutions and move forward? Do you struggle with painful, past experiences resulting in trust issues, and fear of forming relationships with others? I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where I can help you learn new coping skills and develop a healthy relationship with yourself and others. Connection through relationships is essential for a healthy happy life.

I offer a safe, supportive outpatient environment for individuals and couples, with an active focus on recovery from trauma, addiction and relapse recovery/prevention. For addictions I utilize a recovery task model to inspire and build an overall awareness, commitment, and responsibility to the treatment process. Individual therapy and group involvement maybe skillfully utilized to build emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical health to strengthen ties with self and with others. To treat trauma my training and skill in DBT, PIT, and EMDR are used to assist clients towards achieving a more expedient recovery than the utilization of other typical therapy methods alone.

I am most passionate about working with people who are not happy with their current situation and wanting to make a change. For individuals this might be wanting to analyze the relationship they are in, make a career change, challenge old mindsets that are no longer working for them or disuss current mental health symptoms they are experiencing. For couples this could be exploring compatability, communication challenges, lack of intimacy, ongoing conflict, confronting addiction or having experienced an affair. My training in trauma, addiction and recovering from affairs allows me to work with the most challenging circumstances.

We find ourselves feeling anxious, depressed, angry, and panicky we have no idea why. Negative emotions, feelings and behaviors are generally caused by unresolved earlier experiences that are pushing you in the wrong directions. The goal of EMDR therapy is to process completely the experiences that are causing problems and store them with appropriate emotions in the brain, and to include new ones that are needed to guide you in positive ways in the future. The inappropriate emotions, beliefs, and body sensations will be discarded. Leaving you with the emotions, understanding, and perspectives that lead to healthy and useful behavior.

Things seem dark; you may be overwhelmed, but you are not alone. I believe that our relationships shape and define us, as we come to know ourselves by being known. We can feel broken by relationships, but relationships also have the power to heal as we begin to experience ourselves in a new and powerful way. This is a tremendously vulnerable, scary, and exciting place to be. Sometimes it takes reaching the point of desperation to take this leap into new and unknown territory. Change is always possible, and there is no such thing as "too late", but it takes courage to begin.

Life is fragile and sometimes unpredictable. Unexpected or painful experiences can alter your life in profound ways. The cord of hope that connects you to your life and dreams can become strained or broken. You may feel anxious, sad, or angry. Perhaps some time has passed and you realize that time alone does not heal all wounds. Whether your wound is new or old, counseling can help. You don’t have to go through it alone. It would be my honor to join with you as you move through your struggles and experience more self-acceptance, peace, fulfillment, connection, and healing.

I help people turn their scars into beauty marks with the use of EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Parts & Inner Child Work, Mindfulness practices & other Attachment-Based Modalities.
You know that saying “Never judge a book by its cover”? Well, I can honestly say that the cover of my book does not match the pages! The pages in my book of life have equipped me with the experience to connect with ALL people. In my book, I’ve encountered many conflicts. I’ve been the antagonist and the protagonist and I’m just in the rising action. Because my pages are not all filled with butterflies and sunshine, I’ve had to work to find ways to help equip myself with daily coping skills. I am happy to be in a position to share my experience with others through therapy and educational opportunities.

My approach is trauma-informed, person-centered, and attachment-based where recognizing the unique elements of each individual's experience is a central focus.
Within us there can be pockets of hurt, resentment, fear, and grief. These vulnerable parts coexist uneasily with another side — the one determined to keep moving forward. Therapy can act as a bridge, carefully navigating between these opposing sides. By acknowledging these experiences, we can gradually move forward with more clarity and strength. My goal as your therapist is to create a space that is warm, affirming, and compassionate — a place where you can freely explore your authentic self, dive into the root causes of your suffering, and develop paths toward fulfillment.

Is it hard to understand what is holding you back? Maybe you struggle to truly love yourself. As we move forward in life, traumas from the past or challenges of the present can prevent you from realizing your true and happiest self. It can negatively affect your parenting, the way you interact with others, how you feel about yourself or your ability to move forward in life. You have everything you need to overcome or learn to cope in an effective way that allows you to be the best you as a young adult, parent, partner, friend or family member. You might just need some support and skills to help navigate that process.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
