I feel so fortunate to do the work that I do, to be trusted with a person's story, their fears, their hopes, their wants and their needs. I do not claim to be the expert on you. You are the expert on you. What I am expert at is helping you explore, discover, and find what is true for you. I am skilled at helping you undo patterns that do not serve you. My gift is in being able to support you in letting go of things you have taken on and internalized that obscure the expression of who you really are in this lifetime. It is in embracing and living from the truth of who you are that a full and satisfying life can be discovered.

Therapy for individuals, couple, and families. There are times when life is painful and seemingly without answers, yet what seems most broken in us can be a channel for growth, even a source of strength we never knew was possible. My own healing through therapy and mindfulness meditation inspired me to pursue an MA in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco -- the first program in the world to blend Eastern philosophical and spiritual traditions with Western schools of psychology. Today, I feel honored to support others on their journey toward healing.

You ask yourself, "will it ever stop?" The racing thoughts...the knots in your stomach...the sense of urgency or lack of motivation...the paralyzing self-doubt and overwhelm. You’re easily triggered by those around you. It feels like you're on an emotional roller coaster. That intrusive voice is telling you that you’re not enough—you’ll never measure up. Perfectionism and procrastination keep you stuck. You find yourself in an unfulfilling job or relationship yet again. You long for connection, but are afraid of rejection. You seek comfort with alcohol, food, social media, work or shopping, but the feelings keep coming back.

I believe that some of the most sustainable human growth occurs via relationship. This is why I believe in the power of Psychotherapy: it can be a unique opportunity for healing, a process in which -- through genuine connection and honest feedback, we can begin to make sense of the way we have come to view ourselves, our relationships, our sense of spirituality and interconnection, and the world around us. Through our work together, my clients can begin to gain the tools needed in order to change that which they can control, but also genuinely accept that which they cannot.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
