I believe the therapeutic relationship is an organic experience that cannot be created elsewhere. My experience has shown me that each of us walks our own path and that no two are the same. Having support while walking your path can be just the thing to make the difference. I strive to provide safety so that you can talk about your life, your family, your pain, and sit in the tension to ultimately begin living more authentically. I work from a holistic approach; given that, we will develop the best course of treatment for your needs, together.

My ideal client is ready for a change. They are someone who is looking for support with life stress and anxiety, adjusting to a life transition, feeling stuck, or wanting to grow themself. My client's goals might include learning to better manage stress and anxiety, finding their voice or direction, setting boundaries, growing self-worth, or creating new healthy patterns. They might want help with communication in the workplace and at home. They might want to start thriving in life and relationships and start healing from barriers in the past. I am currently receiving training in Somatic Experiencing (traumahealing.org).

Are you ready for your healing to take flight? At HoneyBee Wellness and Consulting, we will help you take the first steps towards making peace with your past, breaking down the negative beliefs that keep you trapped and unhappy, and stepping into the powerful and healed person you were always meant to be. Depression, anxiety, trauma, burnout, and stress can cast dark shadows over our lives, sometimes without us realizing it. The ripple effects can damage the way we see ourselves and the way we treat our closest loved ones. But with the right understanding and support, you can emerge stronger and more aligned with yourself.

Progress is made in the struggle; if we’re not struggling, we’re stagnant. People are inherently resilient and resourceful, but sometimes we bump up against something that leaves us feeling stuck or disconnected. If you have found yourself reading this, perhaps you’re tired of feeling “stagnant” or you feel ready to wrestle with the issues bringing you to therapy. I am dedicated to assisting my clients in navigating trauma, family of origin issues, eating disorders, body image concerns, and depression and anxiety. I also enjoy working with first responders and their families, and neurodivergent individuals!

Over the past 3 years, I have dedicated myself to those dealing with eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and trauma. With almost 2 decades of personal recovery, I understand how the eating disorder can affect your ability to move forward in life, especially when there are coinciding disorders. The realization that you may need help takes a certain amount of courage and I’m here to walk along side you on that journey to recovery so you can fulfill your dreams. It will be hard, uncomfortable, and sometimes won’t seem worth it, but I assure you, there is more to life and you have the capability to heal.

Beneath every behavior exists a story. The events of one’s story can often create a fragmented internal world- a sense of disconnection from one’s truest self. In this isolated space, emotions can vary from numb and out of touch to overblown and out of control. Shame can make showing up feel like the exposure will kill you. Guilt can feel like it will never end. Fear can evoke emotional paralysis which guards an ever-spinning mind. Sadness can feel all-consuming. Making sense of where you’ve been, who you are, why you do what you do, and how you’d like your story to unfold is part of the growth process.

Sometimes life just gets messy. I enjoy supporting both minors and adults in finding self compassion and growth while experiencing the uncomfortable. In sessions together, we can learn to do this by navigating trauma responses, depression, anxiety, life transitions, suicidal thoughts, relationships, body-image challanges, disordered eating, behavioral issues, and stress. Through both doing my own work and spending time with clients, I wholeheartedly feel we can find so much healing by getting curious about our emotions and greeting whatever arises with kindness, respect, and a bit of humor

Life transitions can be difficult and dysregulating, particularly when those transitions are a death/loss or the addition of a baby. Clients typically come in feeling overwhelmed or numb to what is going on in their life. Other clients feel stuck because of a past or recent trauma. My clients are open to exploring the mind-body connection as we collaboratively work together to find stability and joy in their everyday lives.

The treatment of complex histories of trauma, eating disorders, and attachment disruptions must include interventions that rewire the brain from the bottom up, somatic movement to reintegrate the body with the brain, and a felt sense of safety, in the context of relationship. This provides lasting change for improved regulation, mood, energy, the ability to be present and attune to others. Too many therapies focus on decision making, problem solving, or changing your thoughts. This is not how we are wired to work. It leads to disappointment. My evidenced based interventions promise to be different.

Rachel Held Evans wrote that "we live inside an unfinished story." Are you lacking clarity about what you want to do with your life? Did you have a difficult or confusing childhood, and now struggle with connection to others? Did you experience a traumatic event or relationship that has been difficult to overcome on your own? Do you struggle in relationships and wonder why you have the same problems time and time again? Do you have a chronic illness and experience the emotional pain, disappointment, and despair it can bring? If any of this resonates with you, I can help you write the rest of your story.

The focus of my psychotherapy practice has tended toward “driven” people - the high performers, hard workers, and leaders of society - who are driven to succeed. Driven people often find themselves caught in a harmful but subtle cycle. At first, their drive to succeed enables them to (over)work very hard, accomplish laudable goals, and enjoy big rewards. But the same drive also seems to entail a price tag: stressful jobs, difficult relationships, internal agonies (anxiety, depression, burnout), etc. Although survival tools - food, alcohol, love/sex, wealth, fun, etc. - can manage the pain for a while, they also entrap their users.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
