We are all ultimately seeking happiness and to decrease our suffering. It is especially difficult during these times to believe that we are valuable, loveable and have a hope of happiness. We can work together to help you build a life worth living. You will believe there is some hope when you start to see a glimmer of results.

Neurodiversity-affirming and trauma informed care at Rising Winds Counseling goes beyond the therapeutic relationship to encompass our advocacy efforts, treatment planning, telehealth option, and even our office space (soft lighting and other sensory considerations). We acknowledge that there has been a history of ableism within the mental health treatment that has created some fears related to seeking therapy which is why we rely on strength based approaches, research that is specific to neurodiverse individuals, and a therapeutic approach that empowers you to both achieve your goals and honor the unique aspects of yourself.

Congratulations on taking this step in your journey towards health and healing. It is my goal to help create a safe, nonjudgemental space for my clients to build a more compassionate relationship with their own pain and suffering. When we take a more compassionate and loving stance with our own pain, we can then begin to feel more empowered to move towards the things that we most deeply value and desire in life. You matter, your voice matters, your pain matters. It would be my honor to walk with you on your journey.

Life can be complicated, overwhelming, challenging, and messy. People don’t tend to fit in neat little boxes, but I find that beautiful. The people I comes in contact with never cease to amaze and inspire me with their stories, struggles, and victories. I am committed to creating a safe and nonjudgemental space for people to explore healing and reconnect with themselves, others, and with hope beyond ourselves. My focus is relational and I believe this is the most healing aspect of any treatment modal. “We are wounded in relationship, and we heal in relationship.”

Sometimes life's challenges can overwhelm us and exceed our capacity to work through them on our own. My practice is focused on providing a safe, non-judgmental environment to help those who need support moving past difficult life events and trauma experiences. I use a culturally sensitive lens and practice from a strengths based perspective to support those who have difficulty accessing their emotional self, are neurodivergent and who have experienced stressful or painful situations that involve spirituality or faith.

Together, we will work to bring about the changes necessary to empower you to live authentically, with purpose, and to achieve your full potential. When things feel off or when you are not going in a direction that feels authentic you can feel or see it. I approach therapy through a lens of strength, the strength to be vulnerable, to take ownership of your story, and to learning about yourself to act out your values with integrity. My experience as a therapist has shown me any change can evoke grief, and that acceptance when things cannot or will not change can be hard too. Individual therapy can provide support for grief, depression, isolation, and anxiety. Couples therapy can strengthen connection and dreams in your relationship. You don’t need to be alone in your journey.

I work with clients seeking to not only recover from substance abuse, but also thrive in life. Whether you're trying to be more mindful with your use, newly sober, or trying to strengthen or compliment your existing recovery program, I believe I can be of service to you. Mental wellbeing is like a garden - you can't simply remove the weeds and expect beauty to develop on it's own. You must learn how to both manage the weeds and tend to the flowers if you want a garden that'll provide lasting benefits. Together we can work through and beyond obstacles including co-occurring mental health issues, trauma, self-sabotage, and more.

Fabolous once stated "I am a movement by myself, but I am a force when we're together". I am looking to assist individuals ready to become a force. Willing to become the pioneers of their lives and take full control of their destiny. I am a true believer that when equipped with the right knowledge and resources individuals can overcome any obstacle faced. I will aid as a support providing therapeutic tools and evidence-based practices. Most of the people I have assisted come from vulnerable populations impacted by poverty, incarceration, substance use, and all other forms of abuse.

No one is exempt from hardship, struggle, stress or difficulty. In this life we all experience situations and circumstances that are at times beyond our control. I wholeheartedly believe that we are all born with the ability to heal ourselves but that at times we could use a helping hand. Everyone needs a safe supportive space that will allow them to reconnect with themselves. Everyone needs a place that nurtures a sense of emotional well-being and that will allow them to more openly explore pain, release blocks and heal wounds. Nashville Emotional Wellness (NEW) Counseling is this place.

Deep connections sustain and heal the human spirit. When we are deeply connected to ourselves, our values, our story, and our inner workings, we can thrive. When we are genuinely connected to others, to family, and to community, we can flourish. Often, however, disconnection and fracture prevent the kind of thriving that might be possible. Through my therapeutic approach, I aim to work collaboratively with clients to explore both areas of disconnection and suffering, as well as opportunities for re-connection, for the deepening of current connections, and for lasting change.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Nashville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
