I have a great passion for the world of therapy and all it has to offer for individuals. Life sometimes brings forth challenges and situations that may make us feel broken and hopeless. I believe that hope is the beginning process of healing. My goal is to create a safe and nurturing environment for all individuals that may feel stuck in their lives and help them move forward through processing. I enjoy being creative in therapy and making the process of therapy self centered. "Where there is Hope there is Healing and where there is Healing there is Strength".

Maya Angelou tells us “Courage is the most important of all virtues because without courage, you can’t practice any other virtue consistently.” In a world that often teaches us self-loathing before self-love, that platforms criticism over compassion, that celebrates perfection over process, it takes courage to step out of shame and into our own stories, it takes courage to self-reflect and give context to our choices and patterns of behavior, it takes courage to cultivate change from a stance of attention, trust, and tenderness. Thankfully, we don’t have to do this work alone.

Looking to improve your sport/mental performance? Better understand your gender, sexuality, or relationship identity? Process a history of trauma? Our stories are our greatest power, and yet, can be difficult to share. I am a Clinical Sport Psychologist who encourages clients to tell their stories (yes, even the ugly stuff!) as accurately and meaningfully as possible to pave a path for moving forward. I equally recognize that not all mental health concerns are individually determined, and encourage clients to explore the impact of their social, intergenerational, and environmental histories and resources to promote healing/growth.

You may be experiencing "stuckness" in your life, feeling caught in thought loops that have left you overwhelmed, anxious, in pain, hopeless. Yet, something brought you here – somewhere within you is an action tendency to move toward healing, growth, and connection. Whether you are dealing with anxiety, OCD, trauma, or existential struggles over identity, relationships, loss, or life transitions, together through therapy, we can tap into that healing energy already within you, reframe and make space for painful experiences, reconstruct ways of moving through the world, and create space for movement toward what matters most to you.

As a clinical therapist, my ideal clients are a couple from a diverse background, particularly within the BIPOC community. Their presenting issues are communication barriers, lack of intimacy and trust, differences in expectations of one another. They have a lot of unresolved conflicts and would like to find a resolution to their situations and problems. They are seeking support and guidance as they navigate the journey of premarital challenges and prepare for married life. They want emotional and physical intimacy, to listen to each other and communicate in a more effective manner.

My work as a therapist is based on a conviction that our choices and relationship patterns are fueled by our need to experience wholeness and heal the brokenness of our past. This concept lies at the core of attachment theory and is a powerful tool for helping us understand why we struggle with others and with our own internal critic. In my therapeutic work, I leverage aspects of Imago, Solution-focused, and Internal Family theories to help clients progress towards deeper and more meaningful connections with themselves and others.

My approach to counseling is very interactive and individualized. I like to provide an environment full of creativity, flexibility and humor during the counseling process. Challenging your self-perception, understanding your emotions, and changing your unhelpful behaviors requires tough work, but you won't be doing it alone. Together we will explore the patterns in your life that are keeping you stuck and find healthier ways to achieve what you need so that you can begin creating a life you love.

Let’s be real; life as a teenager or young adult is complex and hard enough as it is. Add to that the confusion about who you are as a mixed race individual; the frustration of being directly or indirectly labeled “the black girl” in a predominantly white school; or the pressure that comes with being a student athlete trying to balance life on and off the court. The weight of it all can become too heavy to carry alone!

Hey, I'm glad you found me. I help frustrated athletes and performers and depressed and anxious individuals. I help people overcome life’s challenges and hurdles, help make meaning out of confusion, and simply provide a safe, warm environment in which to explore life and grow. No matter what experiences you’ve been through, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you work toward your goals. I work particularly with athletes and performers suffering from the mental and emotional toll of a serious injury or who are facing the end of their days as a performer, men's issues, crises of faith, and depression, anxiety, and grief.

I am passionate about helping couples create deeper connection than they ever knew possible. I also enjoy working with individuals in all stages of life. My favorite moments are when a client says, "This is new." Many enter counseling feeling stuck in old patterns, and new experiences provide hope for healing. My practice is currently full for regular weekly clients. However, I specialize in 3-day weekend intensives with couples and I take on 1-2 new couples (from in- or out-of-state) per month for this work. Follow up work is required after the 3 days in order to continue momentum and create lasting change.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Nashville?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
