I have received training in using somatic and attachment-based treatment models, including EMDR, SMART, IFS, and TBRI.
I work with adults and adolescents. I specialize in helping individuals and families heal from and cope with the impact of issues like trauma, abuse, grief, loss, adoption, attachment problems, anxiety, depression, life transitions, parenting challenges, family conflict, relationship struggles, and postpartum and women's issues. I believe every client I see is more than their problems or labels. I complete a thorough assessment, so I can customize treatment to meet clients where they are and help them toward their goals. I also create a supportive, non-judgmental atmosphere that allows for reflection and healing.

My therapeutic approach is attachment-based and integrative, helping clients connect thoughts, feelings, and beliefs to heal past wounds, explore stories, write new narratives, and pursue healthier relationships.
Eight years ago I found myself evaluating an unknown future after divorce. My healing journey after this unexpected loss ignited a passion for emotional, relational, and spiritual wellness. I knew I wanted to help others experiencing trauma, pain, and grief. While developing national support groups for single parents (www.soloparent.org), I returned to school to fulfill a new life calling as a counselor.

If you tell yourself: “I can’t keep living like this,” we'll be a good fit. I specialize in individuals, couples, and families who've been impacted by suicidal thoughts and related concerns, such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and identity-related stress (gender, sexual orientation, ethnic/racial). These people are cycle-breakers who want to change old family patterns; stonecatchers who try to protect others from mistreatment because they know how it feels; or those who are simply tired of feeling “just ok.” Ultimately I blend the nerdy science of psychology with humility and humor to support you in building a more meaningful life.

In my personal and professional life, I have found one thing to be true: Life can be hard. I have a passion for supporting others in resolving pain and reclaiming fullness in life. While pain is an inevitable part of the human experience, suffering is optional. I am dedicated to helping individuals, couples, and families heal from relational and other traumas, problematic sexual behaviors, addictions, and intimacy disorders. I see brokenhearted adults and children as they learn to cope with an unstable world. My heart is to heal the broken hearted and give hope where hope was once lost.

It takes courage to reach out for help. I am passionate about partnering and walking alongside others in some of their most difficult moments to help them reach a sense of hope and healing. I believe we are designed to heal. My greatest priority is creating an atmosphere of safety where my clients can feel seen, heard, and understood. There may have been places in your story where you learned tools to help you survive and those tools are no longer helpful but actually keeping you from living from a place of wholeness.

I am trained in EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, attachment-based interventions, and play therapy.
All of us can benefit from having someone walk with us through life's challenges. Reaching out takes courage. I'm passionate about building relationships with clients of all ages, rooted in developing trust and safety, to create the space and awareness to be who you were created to be. I believe we are designed to heal. Sometimes the strategies we developed to navigate the world initially helped us to survive, but they are no longer serving us, and are actually keeping us from living life fully. I journey alongside my clients as they reconnect with their true selves, rediscover hope, and step into a richer experience of life.

It’s taken me a long time to write this because I desperately wanted my bio to communicate my heart for counseling, people, and the work that I do, but I also feel that words fall short when you’re trying to communicate something so intimate. Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or your 10th time, I hope to encourage and help empower you in your fight to become who you want to be. Whatever next step you decide to take, I hope the best for you.

I believe that my office is a safe place to land when you feel unsteady, unstable and unsure. I love to help couples and families work through hurt and discover ways to move forward. I love to provide safe space to be honest and raw. I love to help people learn to communicate in healthy ways, set boundaries and gain health in their relationships. I also love to help clients understand the physiological and neurobiological aspects of mental health. Being able to gain language for what they are experiencing tends to provide relief all on its own.

Growth requires a willingness to be vulnerable and honest, both with ourselves and others. True healing can only occur when we are brave enough to shine a light on the darkest corners of our souls. My professional experience includes working with previously incarcerated individuals, those facing addiction, and clients dealing with trauma and relational issues. Therapy works when clients bring their courage, openness, and honesty into session. The work is not always a pleasant stroll in the park; rather, it's a challenging trek that requires resilience and determination.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
