You have probably been wondering about getting some help for some time. You have some worries that just aren't going away, are harder to manage, and your life, in general, is getting away from you. You are miserable and the things you have been doing to cope all this time aren't working any more. If you are a parent, your child is getting older, their school may be calling you more, and you just don't know where to turn. You have the motivation to improve your life but the way forward is not clear and you can't handle moving backwards anymore.

10 years previous experience working with pregnant and parenting women in residential treatment for addiction recovery, specializing in relapse prevention, and co-occurring mental health issues. My focus was on helping these women to understand their family of origin issues and how they had impacted their lives so profoundly in unhealthy ways. Through psychoeducation in individual and group counseling, we worked on increasing self-worth, developing sober emotional coping skills, self-advocacy skills, and self-empowerment. Now in private practice 5 years, I focus on psychoeducation for addressing trauma history and related issues.

Hello there! I love what I do, and have been cultivating the art of offering healing spaces for others for 10+ years. I work with clients who come from many different backgrounds, who have a wide variety of needs. I am a best clinical fit for adults of any age who are seeking to put in the work to transform unhelpful patterns, to explore and heal injured parts of the self, to enrich their relationships and lives with more vitality and meaning, or to address the origins and roots of life struggles. I also provide clinical supervision to other therapists, and consultation and coaching to folks in the states as well as internationally.

I enjoy working with individuals of all ages and have experience working with infants all the way to older adults. I can work with a range of issue but I specialize in trauma resolution. Exposure to trauma and chronic stress can lead to a variety of symptoms including behavioral, emotional, and psychophysiologic symptoms (those refer to symptoms ranging from physical symptoms such as digestive upset and headaches all the way to autoimmune conditions). The good news is that healing from trauma is possible and can be incredibly transformative.

You are on a courageous journey of self-exploration, healing and empowerment. My commitment to you is to foster a space where you feel witnessed and heard. Our work together will be tailored to meet you where you are in your healing process and together we will formulate the best therapeutic approach to meet your needs. I specialize in working with clients that feel “lost” and “disconnected” to the world around them due to trauma. It is not uncommon for these feelings to manifest through substance abuse, eating disorders, and unhealthy relationships.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
