We have all experienced appointments or moments that we felt uncomfortable or forever changed as a result. Parenthood and life transitions are examples of journeys that no two people will ever experience the same, have the exact same feelings, exact same memories, or stories. Each person is different, each story is unique, valid, and special.

As a psychodynamic therapist my approach to therapy looks at how trauma, past relationships, core beliefs, and attachments have shaped a client's present behaviors and thought processes. The goal in my therapy is to discover what we need to heal in order to grow and prosper- and then how to begin the work. If you feel like you don't know where to begin and as if you're "stuck" in the same patterns and self-defeating behaviors, you're not alone. If you're ready to take the next step in your healing, I'd love to help guide you. I specialize in marriage & relationship issues, personality disorders, and trauma/mood disorders.

Are you struggling with stress, anxiety, self-image/identity/esteem, relational issues, or just general feelings of sadness? My goal is to make you feel seen, heard, and understood all while exploring these current issues. I'm not that stoic, serious therapist you've traditionally seen portrayed in movies. I smile, I laugh, I frown, I may even gasp (insert gasp!). But I'll do my best to always make you feel safe and supported. I'm just another human who, like you, is looking to learn, connect, and grow. I believe in taking a down-to-earth, relatable approach to therapy, providing a new perspective while collaborating with you.

Life is not an easy road to travel, so let's team up and travel together! There can be a number of things that makes someone's journey more difficult: becoming a new parent, relationship challenges, peer issues, not finding joy in the day to day, a recent traumatic event, or something from the past trying to relive in the current moment.

Everyone can use an objective voice to help them work out what is going on in their lives. Sometimes relief can begin just by deciding that a little help won’t hurt. “Beneath every behavior there is a feeling. And beneath each feeling is a need. And when we meet that need rather than focus on the behavior, we begin to deal with the cause, not the symptom” (Ashleigh Warner). This is my philosophy for counseling. I have done work with children/adolescents and their families. Mental health concerns manifest differently in children/teens than they do in adults, and I know what to look for and how to help find the skills to help.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
