Life can be challenging, and you don't have to figure it out on your own. Many factors shape who we are and how we feel, some of which we’re not even aware of. Therapy provides the opportunity to gain understanding of those things in a safe and supportive environment. I consider my part in your journey of self-discovery as a privilege. I understand seeking help is truly an act of courage, which I deeply appreciate and respect.

While everyone’s journey through life is unique, we ultimately all want the same thing…We ALL want to be happy. Unfortunately, happiness doesn't always come easily. Our journey is full of challenges that we have to overcome in order to get back to being happy. We experience sadness and loss. We fall completely in love only to suffer heart break. Some of us go through traumatic events such as combat or a devastating accident. These situations and many more cause us to develop feelings of fear, sadness and frustration which we do our best to manage, but typically do so in an unhealthy and maladapted way.

Are you going through a tough time? Are you so full of anxiety that you find it challenging to navigate through the day? Parents, do you have a child that is struggling to focus at school or control their emotions? Are you hesitant to talk to somebody for fear of being judged? Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Starting a journey in therapy can be scary, however it might just be the best decision of your life. Through experience, I've come to learn that there is nothing more comforting than hearing the words “I understand, I’ve been there or I can relate.”

I also use person-centered, attachment-based, and solution-focused modalities to work with teens and young adults to treat issues related to self-esteem, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation/gender identity, depression, anxiety, trauma, academic stress, and relationships.
I approach psychotherapy with cultural humility and a growth mindset. As a South-Asian woman continuing to navigate the nuances of my bi-cultural identities, I appreciate the contributions of complex sociocultural issues to an individual’s sense of self, holistic well-being, and meaning in life. My educational and clinical experience thus far has fueled my passion towards working with underserved populations including BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities.

Therapy is one of the most worthwhile investments you can make in yourself. Though the decision to start therapy might feel overwhelming, it offers the unique opportunity to reflect, heal, and create a life that feels most authentic to you. With a psychodynamic and attachment-based approach, I work with clients to explore past and present experiences, and enable self-awareness from within. Together, we will focus on transforming your relationship with yourself and others through identifying and repairing patterns that have left you feeling stuck or unfulfilled.

I use a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework and balance careful listening with thoughtful probing.
As humans, we tend to avoid our more difficult and complex emotions in hopes that they will disappear. However, it is more often the case that the feelings we turn inward find their way out, and sometimes in a less-than-ideal way. Therapy is a unique space to explore the parts of you that tend to stay hidden. It is a space to “look beneath the hood” to understand more fully who you are and "why" you are. With this newfound insight, we can explore ways for you to engage more fully in your life and relationships, dig into your sense of purpose, and reconnect with (or discover for the first time) feelings of stillness and joy.

You excel in one or more areas of your life, yet you silently struggle with feelings of being unworthy and unlovable. Sometimes you may even feel like an outsider in your own life. Maybe you buy nice things, or go on amazing trips, but for some reason you still don’t feel happy. You may hide behind your work and push people away because you are afraid to let them know who you really are. This is not what you want to be doing but you can’t help it. This is not your fault. You are doing the best you can with the resources you were given. At The Empowerment Opportunity, we will help you tap into different resources within yourself.

Post pandemic earth is a tough place to live. My adolescent and adult clients alike have experienced increased anxiety, feelings of hopelessness, stress and anger; around loss, personal responsibilities, connection, and even just taking up space in a chaotic world. I approach therapy as way to take back parts of yourself that have been lost to loss and harm, while discovering emerging new parts. Though our discussions get heavy, I aim to smile and laugh with my clients through it all.

You want to help yourself, your loved ones, maybe even the world, if you could just get there. Your open minded and determined; you just need a little help. Then welcome aboard. Give me a call and lets Conquer these Challenges, together!

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to engage in self-reflection at some moment in their lives, whether they are transitioning through a phase or struggling with the daily stressors of everyday life that impact well-being. I envision therapy as a collaborative process between therapist and client in which individuals, through guidance and introspection, can reach the best versions of themselves and develop meaningful relationships, self-fulfillment, and mastery over past and present challenges. I hold a multicultural lens with all clients I encounter and recognize the impact of race, ethnicity, and social context.

I believe therapy should be long term and built on the strong relationship between therapist and client. My approach is solution focused with forward orientation. I try to encourage clients to share at their pace & they will be met exactly where they are at. Anything shared is viewed as a gift & a privilege to hear. I practice eclectic psychotherapy using a wide range of tools, training, and skills with my life experience to support clients in being able to achieve the desired change, acceptance, or processing they may be seeking. I want you to feel safe enough to finally tell someone: what happened to you. You are no longer alone.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
