I understand starting therapy can feel daunting, I aim to create a safe, comforting, and supportive environment for the individuals I work with. It takes time to get to know each other, and we will go at a pace that works for you. Our first session will include important information about your history, past therapy, family dynamics, identify your current symptoms, and together prioritize what you want to work on. From there, we will develop treatment goals to decrease your identified stressors.

Do you struggle to manage symptoms of distress? You may experience physical discomfort, intrusive thoughts, or harmful behavior patterns. With a history of trauma, or “toxic stress”, practicing coping skills can be difficult. Learning to calm yourself down may feel impossible. With practice, you can manage unwanted symptoms to create relief and improve life satisfaction. All people heal at their own pace, and all people can learn to reduce their own suffering.

Do you constantly feel stressed, burned out and generally unfulfilled by life? Maybe you’re facing pressures and expectations from family, school or work, and on top of that, experiencing self-limiting beliefs, leading to anxiety and depression. I support a wide range of clients: career-oriented, professional women who have experienced childhood trauma; young adults dealing with anxiety, depression, or adjustment issues; and anyone drawn to a body-based therapy approach integrating yoga, mindfulness, and breathwork.

Healing is a very personal, and even spiritual practice. I like to use the word healing rather than therapy or counseling because it encompasses the idea that the client is in charge of doing the deep inner work, not the therapist. The client is free to dive to the root of an issue rather than just scratching the surface. As a healing practitioner, I hold space for the client's healing journey. I guide, support, honor, and truly see my clients as they dig deep into their hearts and minds to find their personal power and free themselves of past pain, as well as reduce the mental health symptoms that may cause daily distress.

My experience working in the mental health system for over 10 years has shown me the impact of oppressive systems on the well-being of individuals. This is why I believe as a therapist it is my duty to view all client struggles through systems theory (the impact of external systems on an individual versus the independent “deficiencies” of one person). Your struggle may be tied to race, culture, sexual orientation, gender identity, neurodivergence, etc. Maybe you’re having a hard time setting boundaries, focusing on your own needs, forming healthy relationships, breaking intergenerational patterns, or not reaching your goals.

Do you find yourself feeling sad, lonely, depressed, anxious and isolated? Do you find yourself asking "how did I get here in my life?" The truth is we all ask ourselves this question in different ways. My goal is too help you find your way back to a life that you enjoy. After major life changes, some we created, and others that we could not control, we are left to pick up the pieces of our lives and put our lives back together again. However, the pieces never quite fit back together in the same way. The picture looks different. The experience feels different.

I strive to provide a warm and non judgmental space that allows for relief from the burdens we carry each day. I believe everyone is equipped with the resources within to overcome challenges in their life, but sometimes we can get stuck. Life’s obstacles can often alter our perception of ourselves and others, and our perceptions about the world. We can easily lose sight of our inner strengths and disconnect from ourselves and others. You might find your mind racing, be overwhelmed with stress, or want to shut down.

I am a COVID cautious clinician. Therapy and reaching out for support is hard, especially being a part of the LGBTQ+ community because of the marginalization and oppression experienced when seeking this support. I am actively working to change that narrative and provide a space where you can be 100% authentically yourself without fear or judgment. YOU are the leader in your mental health journey and you deserve to feel that way. Unpacking trauma, learning to communicate, and setting boundaries are things that I enjoy working with people on, though there are many other things.

I believe that every person holds unique life experiences that cumulate to create the story of who they are. These stories provide context to how people express themselves and view the world around them. Within the therapeutic space, I seek to meet clients in a warm, non-judgmental environment, one that is guided by a holistic framework to identify what health and wellness look like for each individual. By incorporating a strengths-based approach and emphasizing acceptance, I focus on collaboratively exploring each person's story to find the balance in accepting what they cannot control and making changes in areas they can.

Having a special therapeutic relationship to address, identify and process unresolved emotions, unpleasant memories, intrusive thoughts and chronic feelings of hopelessness can make a huge difference in ones' life. A specialized plan tailored to meet your own needs and goals is first and foremost.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
