My name is Soren and I work with children and adults of all ages to help people grow in whatever directions feel the most authentic to them. Many times we hide our deepest truths from others and even from ourselves in order to keep moving forward and not make a fuss or ignite difficult emotions. I seek to bring the best of my learning to match up with who you are. I don’t treat a diagnosis, per se I address the underlying, not so obvious factors that lock a person into patterns of behavior & patterns of response that give rise to the symptoms we see in things like depression, social and relational struggling, anxiety and a general feeling of life as painful. Models- Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, and Affective Neuroscience are my building blocks. AEDP & ISTDP speak to me in particularly in creating lasting change.

My practice offers a safe and relaxing space to begin the psychotherapeutic journey. As a college professor and clinician for many years I offer a wide range of therapeutic approaches that go beyond talk therapy: such as mindfulness practice, mind/body awareness skills, and other psycho-educational practices. I think that good clinical treatment resides in the therapeutic relationship informed by the latest research on the brain and the gut and an overall multi-modal approach to the person(s) sitting across from me.

I specialize in working with youth and families, and use traditional talk therapy, as well as Synergetic Play Therapy, a body-based modality, to facilitate growth and healing. I also offer the use of art and sandtray to help clients process feelings and experiences that are sometimes beyond words. In my work with teens and pre-teens, I seek to validate, support, and draw upon the innate wisdom they hold within to build resources, confidence, and movement toward goals. I hold my clients in the highest regard, and am constantly reminded in my work that young people can be our greatest teachers about ourselves and the world.

In addition to being a licensed therapist, I have a PhD in Philosophy. As a therapist and life coach, I help individuals struggling in particular with relationships, codependency, sexual compulsivity, and substance/alcohol abuse. I also work with adult children of alcoholics, those who grew up in families where emotional chaos and parental addiction may affect their current lives. Unrecognized trauma can result from this. In addition, I work with gay individuals and couples.

I am trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS) and Psychological First Aid (PFA) and use various evidence-based practices tailored to your individual needs.

Donnie Joseph has 27 years of experience working in social service and counseling spaces. During that time he has worked to counsel and support people during challenging times in their lives- whether in a psychiatric unit, emergency department, an outpatient substance abuse program, a long-term residential adolescent program, or a stabilization unit, Donnie considers it an honor and a privilege to stand alongside people and be a source of support during these vulnerable times.

Each of us holds within ourselves tremendous potential and an innate knowing of just what we need. I look at many symptoms as a creative, adaptive response to our environment that should be respected as such. Through positive connection with others, we can learn new ways of relating to our bodies, our spirits, and our world. I teach couples simple, proven, and easy to learn skills from Harville Hendrix's Imago Relationship Therapy that partners can use to repair, or improve their current, and future relationships. I work with adults to help them understand what caused the stuck places in their lives and together we collaborate to create solutions that heal those issues and create positive change.
