I use a multi-disciplinary approach to treatment, applying psychodynamic and attachment-based therapy combined with contemporary research on trauma and neuropsychology.
I am a certified Jungian analyst, and I bring my knowledge of psychodynamic therapy to help people deal with depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. My goal is to empower my patients on the road to self-insight and self-discovery while giving voice to their everyday needs and concerns. My area of expertise includes careful observation of thoughts, feelings, and unconscious motives so that you can become aware and mindful of your reality and any repeating patterns that keep bringing you pain and suffering.

I am also a trained attachment-based EMDR therapist, a powerful modality to process trauma when words don't seem to cut it.
I start with listening and seek to cultivate a perspective that enlivens, enlightens and unburdens. I use an integrative psychoanalytic approach founded in curiosity and collaboration to address problems relating to trauma, depression, anxiety or self-esteem that can undermine ones ability to thrive interpersonally, creatively, sexually or professionally. Whether it's a life-change, a search for meaning, creative blocks, frustration with the quality of relationships or something else, I will meet you there. Through listening and talking, we will explore internal experience and how it impacts relating to oneself and others.

Contact me if you are struggling with relationship difficulties, sex, sexuality concerns, trauma, losses of loved ones, ADHD, depression or anxiety. I will help you better understand and accept yourself, and use your own insights and strengths to change and grow. I am also passionate about working with individuals, families and groups with cross-cultural/immigration background. Coming to United States as an international student myself, I deeply understand the challenges in the international community, the painful process of loss and separation from home countries, and difficulties to fit in due to language and cultural barriers.

I work through a psychodynamic framework, integrating attachment-based, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal practices.
Everyone goes through difficulties in life, and it helps to have a nonjudgemental person to talk about those struggles. As a therapist, I help others find meaning in the difficulties they are experiencing, and strive to create a safe, secure, and trusting environment for individuals to be able to explore why they are feeling the way they are.

I use a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework and balance careful listening with thoughtful probing.
As humans, we tend to avoid our more difficult and complex emotions in hopes that they will disappear. However, it is more often the case that the feelings we turn inward find their way out, and sometimes in a less-than-ideal way. Therapy is a unique space to explore the parts of you that tend to stay hidden. It is a space to “look beneath the hood” to understand more fully who you are and "why" you are. With this newfound insight, we can explore ways for you to engage more fully in your life and relationships, dig into your sense of purpose, and reconnect with (or discover for the first time) feelings of stillness and joy.

I incorporate psychodynamic, attachment-based, mindfulness-based, and humanistic theories in my practice.
Many of us spend a long time running away from the true essence of ourselves. We abandon ourselves to be accepted by others or praised by a society that wants a specific version of us. This ultimately leads us with pain that we find various ways to numb. Together, we can explore, feel, and heal this pain.

I view therapy as a laboratory for fostering meaningful change and self-discovery. I practice from an integrative perspective, focusing on creating a healing and empathetic relationship that incorporates a range of evidence-based modalities to move towards a more fulfilling, resilient, and harmonious life. I’m particularly drawn to working within the Internal Family Systems model, an attachment-based modality that uplifts the complexity and wisdom of our internal worlds and strengthens our inherent capacity to heal burdened parts of our systems and develop compassionate, strengths-based relationships with ourselves and others.

I have studied attachment-based therapy for many years with nationwide experts.
How do you find the right therapist? Education and training is important, but at least as important is finding a therapist with whom you can truly be yourself. I've been told by my patients that the reasons they value therapy with me are that I'm easy to talk to, I really listen, and I'm interactive. They say I "get" them, which helps to develop trust and safety. It can be difficult to talk about your personal struggles with someone you don't know. My warm, calm and non-judgmental nature makes it a little bit easier. I have 30 years of experience, deep empathy and a sense of humor.

Therapy is a noble, intimate, and sometimes messy undertaking. Those who come to it may hope to relieve emotional pain, expand their understanding of themselves and their life narrative, or access more moments of joy and presence. Together, we can help you move towards what you might otherwise shy away from, understand the source of challenges, and find new ways of coping and being in the world. I work from a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework, and blend tangible skills to help alleviate your pain in the day-to-day and enhance your relationships.

My therapy style is collaborative and experiential, and is informed by a healing-oriented, emotion-focused, attachment-based psychotherapy model called AEDP psychotherapy.
Are you struggling with high-functioning anxiety, imposter syndrome, perfectionism or a people-pleasing tendency? You may feel constantly anxious or on the edge. But when you look for help, you often end up feeling not heard/understood. You're not alone and it's time to stop problem-solving all by yourself. Finding a therapist is daunting, but with a little step, you will no longer get stuck alone in the darkness. Together, we will address a roadblock in your life and build emotional and interpersonal skills in your tool box.

I understand and honor the courage needed to take the first step towards change in your life. Navigating the human condition can often be immensely painful and this is why I believe so strongly in compassionate and supportive therapeutic engagement.  The beauty and growth in life that we are all seeking is often discovered amidst pain and discomfort. My training and experience allow me to comprehend the human experience, which can include trauma, life stressors, and circumstances from the past and/or present that leave people feeling stuck and confused. I especially enjoy working with the LGBTQIA community.

Therapy offers the possibility for change so that, with the appropriate guidance, you can become more content. Through therapy, you can discover who you are and what you want: what saddens and excites you and what dictates your unhappy choices in life to modify them with choices that are more satisfying and realistic. Therapy may eventually lead you to a more meaningful life, more enjoyment in work and love, and ultimately give you the ability to come to terms with your limitations, strengths, and surroundings; Therapy helps survive shame and manage loss, anxiety and sadness.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
