My primary therapeutic focus is to help teenagers and adults to develop a stronger sense of self and to develop the coping skills they will need to address issues of anxiety, self esteem and self worth. I use a non-judgmental, trauma informed and holistic approach to help clients develop their ability to self soothe, including using body/movement and grounding techniques. I focus on both personal autonomy and understanding ourselves in relationships, with the goal of moving out of stuck feelings and thoughts to embody a more curious stance of your experiences and the world around you.

This is the MOMENT; this is YOUR space to HEAL. I'm a Latinx therapist who strongly believes that we all need/want someone to empower, validate and actively listen to us in an empathic/genuine way. I recognize that opening up about our emotional concerns/pain, and being vulnerable to someone else is not an easy thing to commit to. My main goal is to provide a space, where you feel safe to share your life experiences, thoughts, and emotions. My work is driven by a non-judgmental, compassionate, and integrative approach that will be tailored and focused on your needs and goals as a unique individual for your healing journey.

Do you feel uneasy, tense, or unsafe in your own body? Trapped by your own thoughts and emotions, or a nagging feeling or muscular tension that seem unrelated to your emotional state? I know that feeling; that sensation that we try to ignore but just won’t go away. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, the stress of everyday life or the aftermath of trauma, your body is the container that holds it all—thoughts, feelings, sensations—all our lived experiences that make us who we are. Some of these experiences can help us thrive, feel safe and connected and some can make us feel stuck, uncertain, and reactive.

My first experience with therapy, was as the client. After surviving a traumatic event, I sought help from a therapist. Therapy proved so helpful, it was then, that my passion grew. While most of my experience has been in private practice providing individual therapy, I have worked in a county mental health clinic, an inpatient psychiatric setting and a residential group home. At the core of distress, we may find some form of unresolved shame, guilt, trauma, abuse or loss. I am here to provide "a safe place" to process those hurts, while helping you increase self-awareness and gain skills to lead a more fulfilling life.

Life can be overwhelming at times and hard to manage. In therapy with me, together we will work to cope and work through areas that bring you distress. Feedback I have received from individuals who have entered into therapy with me, is that they felt I was not “a robot” & felt comfortable due to my warm and relatable approach. I have assisted individuals discover & create boundaries, healing from trauma, & overcome daily obstacles such as anxiety attacks and depressive feelings. I have helped couples successfully confront their issues, build communication skills, and understand the dynamics of their relationship more clearly.

I believe the usefulness of therapy lies in the relationship the counselor and client create together. It is there that the client is able to safely explore the challenges of life. Within that relationship, personal strengths are cultivated, while weaknesses are identified and skills developed to inform how best to navigate through one's life fully. I have worked with students struggling under the pressures of academia; couples working to keep a relationship strong; couple's in the midst of separation/divorce; Individuals struggling with depression and anxiety.

Everyone functions uniquely, at times experiencing depression, anxiety, insecurities, doubt, and grief. I help people around these issues, as well as introversion, high-functioning Asperger's, bipolar, OCD, and social awkwardness...relationship issues, self-esteem, living with narcissists, identity. We can decide how to deal with life's changes, challenges, and transitions. We will focus compassionately on emotions, thoughts, behaviors, and relationships to examine patterns and slowly change them. Our ability to observe and use our will to change are the most powerful tools we possess to bring about changes we desire.

For all the reasons people come to seek help, learning to inhabit one's body more fully, with mindful awareness of the sensations and messages they are attempting to show us, greatly enhances the effectiveness in achieving one's goals. We work to live as fully and genuinely in the present as possible, while effectively communicating our thoughts, feelings and sensations based on knowledge of oneself and other. Our cellular memory brings to light the issues we are challenged with and greatly enhances our ability to sense and make choices about the long-held habit patterns that hurt ourselves and others.

Many things can affect the ways we think, feel and interact with the world. Having the courage to call a counselor and say, “I need help”, is a huge step toward inviting change. My part in that journey is helping you develop positive trust based connections in an environment of support and acceptance. I use a strengths based, humanistic approach to meet you where you are in your life. Simply, I bring my authentic self and meet you where you're at.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
