Hello, my name is Margarita. Whether this is your first time in therapy or have decided to go back, I hope that you're proud of yourself for taking this very step.Through therapy you will continue to learn about yourself and of new ways to overcome life challenges, demands, and stressors. Therapy can also simply be a space for yourself and to reinforcing the changes you've made. I am a first believer that with each life transition, you will continue to learn and develop as an individual. Change is not easy, but possible!

I am a skilled and experienced psychotherapist and certified yoga teacher offering an eclectic, individualized and holistic approach to clients. I provide ongoing or short term support, guidance and skills to those having difficulty coping with life transitions, dysfunctional patterns of thinking or behaviors and traumatic events. I treat adults, children and families who are open and willing to participate in self-discovery and find deeper connection to their truest self. I believe the frenzied pace of our frenetic lifestyle often prevents us from connecting with our own wisdom. I take great joy in helping others envision and manifest their potential.

Life is constantly throwing change at us and we must learn to navigate and adjust. With your insight and willingness to be vulnerable you can gain awareness of what may be distorted thinking, their underlying causes and work through the challenges of changing what no longer serves you. Therapy can also help to empower you by helping to recognize what choices are in front of oneself. I have over 10 years of experience working with individuals to learn how to better manage anxiety, depression, mood disorders, relationship issues as well as perinatal obstacles.

I work with individuals of all ages, and my therapeutic approaches include psychodynamic, CBT, and attachment-based theory, in addition to play therapy for younger children.
My goal is to provide a safe, nurturing space for children and adults who are facing emotional challenges from current or past experiences. While I specialize in child trauma interventions, I also work with adults who are dealing with anxiety, depression, or who are curious about the exploration of the self, by examining relational patterns, defense mechanisms, and unconscious processes.

I specialize in trauma and am fully trained in Attachment-Based EMDR.
Good therapy strikes a balance between compassion and challenge. How does the past influence daily life? What old patterns and programing run the show?.. and where is change necessary? I work with individuals, couples and families on issues of self esteem, trauma, depression and anxiety. I treat all ages including young people struggling with the stressors of adulthood; as well as older adults facing life changes. The first step in healing is a genuine and unconditional connection to a caring therapist. Reach out to start!

I work relationally and psychodynamically with an attachment-based lens, which means that I care about how your issues from past experiences and relationships are impacting you today.
Getting a new therapist can be intimidating and—let's be real—a major pain. I'm so glad you've found me. I bring compassion, humor, and warmth to our sessions. I ask that you bring your whole self, whatever that means on any given day. Together, we'll explore and stay curious about how you see and understand the world.

I work with individuals across the lifespan, drawing from an intuitive blend of therapeutic approaches, including attachment-based, inner child work, existential, Jungian, CBT, and holistic approaches.
My clients come to therapy with a desire to better understand themselves, their patterns, and the implicit beliefs they hold about themselves and the world. They are deep thinkers and feelers with a great appreciation for humor as part of the therapeutic process. They are often striving to become (and befriend) the best version of themselves. Together, we balance insights and perspectives with tools that guide transformation and growth.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
