Life presents many challenges that can result in feeling stressed, anxious, overwhelmed, or full of despair. When it feels like a burden too difficult to bear, it helps to find someone who can provide support and tools to help empower change. My mission is to help others learn how to tap into their inner strengths and resources to help them achieve their goals and improve their quality of daily living. My passion is working with adolescents and young adults navigating life transitions and struggling with anxiety and depression, particularly related to emerging adulthood issues or interpersonal challenges with peers and family.

My passion is working with children and I believe the child-centered play therapy approach is an invaluable tool that helps children grow in the areas that they need to. I also believe that when working with children you have to include the entire family-system. Additionally, I work with tweens, teens, adolescents, and young adults utilizing a variety of approaches including CBT, Somatic, and Psychodynamic approaches.

When I was Dean of Student Services at a school for teens at risk for drug addiction, unwanted pregnancy, and other self-destructive behaviors, I recognized that many of these teens were depressed, anxious, or suffering from traumatic experiences. In 2008, I earned my degree in social work from Adelphi University and most recently, I completed the three year Child Adolescent Training Psychotherapy Program at the William Alanson White Institute. My training in early emotional development is the foundation for my work with people of all ages.

Are you feeling stuck, anxious, or overwhelmed? Do you struggle with following through on making positive changes? Are you having trouble setting boundaries in your relationships? Do you just "feel off" and you're not sure what's wrong? When life inevitably throws us curveballs they often highlight our self-doubt, and negative feelings and beliefs about ourselves and others that we had been ignoring or didn't even know we had. You may have experienced loss, a difficult diagnosis, relationship or marital challenges, or you are carrying a painful trauma from your past. Maybe you are simply looking to gain clarity and self-awareness.

Life has no shortage of stressors; therapy is an opportunity to process challenges which can lead to self-discovery and growth. As such, I help clients become better equipped to effect change – large or small - leading to better relationships, more fulfillment and improved feelings of self-worth.

You were overwhelmed before and now you’re being pulled in many so many directions that you’re worried you’ll snap. There are so many people counting on you and you have so many responsibilities. One moment you’re a housekeeper, the next a teacher, then a worker and a chef. The demands are endless. But who’s taking care of you? Maybe you’ve fooled yourself into thinking, “Everyone else is managing but me.” After all, look at all those gourmet meals on Instagram

To our Dear Future Client, If you're reading this, chances are you may have noticed that something does not feel right in your relationship. Perhaps you have known this for quite some time or maybe you have only now come to realize an important truth - that this is not how you want to feel, not where you want to be, & it's time for change. Change can be really scary and overwhelming, maybe even foreign. Of course, evolution doesn't happen overnight, so naturally you may ask how & when does it happen? Good questions!

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
