You excel in one or more areas of your life, yet you silently struggle with feelings of being unworthy and unlovable. Sometimes you may even feel like an outsider in your own life. Maybe you buy nice things, or go on amazing trips, but for some reason you still don’t feel happy. You may hide behind your work and push people away because you are afraid to let them know who you really are. This is not what you want to be doing but you can’t help it. This is not your fault. You are doing the best you can with the resources you were given. At The Empowerment Opportunity, we will help you tap into different resources within yourself.

Rize-Up Together was started by three women of The Bronx who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities where confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Rize-Up Together began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

In a safe and respectful setting, utilizing traditional and holistic therapies, you can develop skills that bring you into greater partnership with you. As you come to truly know and understand your own unique journey, you will be led to skills that benefit the whole of you. When you feel comfortable within yourself, inner calm becomes readily accessible. Relationships that are sticky become fluid and more enjoyable. Whatever your personal issues, learning to understand and trust your own unique experience becomes the heart of a life well-lived. This is true for adults who see me individually, for couples, and with older kids/teens.

During these uncertain, rapidly changing and complex times we are living through, I seek to meet you where you are and assist you in resolving the pain and confusion which blocks your sense of peace and authenticity, exploring the influence of your early life on your personality, relationships and current stressful situations. Together we will find tools to relieve any anxiety and confusion and we will find a place of equilibrium from which you can engage your inner and outer world in newly effective ways. You can then make the changes you need to make in order to experience fulfillment with yourself and within relationships.

Hello everyone, please welcome and allow me to first begin in thanking you. The choice to start therapy isn’t always easy, sometimes it is the most difficult thing to do is to even consider it, then admit you want/need it before even taking the steps to start, but you are not alone on this journey. Perhaps there has been times that you have found yourself feeling stressed, down, lacking confidence, or stuck in a pattern that no longer serves you. Perhaps you’re ready to take steps toward changes but feel stuck or unsure where to start. Or even feeling lost in your relationships in life or even disconnected from them.

Even when we have received the ideal nurturing, secure, validating childhood, which can help us to negotiate complexities and challenges we may face later in life, our inner resources can become depleted. The capacity to find joy and comfort may elude us. Rebalancing areas of outer life, and planning steps toward change may be in order. I make time to learn about the myriad ways that using art, energetic, somatic and stress reducing therapies can help each person who comes in, to restore their inner lives as well.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
