When's the last time you really felt heard? That someone was truly listening to you & what you had to say, instead of just waiting for their turn to speak? In these times when social media seemingly offers instant connections to anyone, yet can still leave you feeling unheard, unseen and disconnected from everyone, having someone give you their undivided attention and consideration can be a rare find. I am that rare find.

Are you adjusting to a significant life event and would benefit from an additional support system? Significant life events can include, but are not limited to, relationship conflicts, changes in circumstances, such as family, health, or job adversities, or overall ongoing life stressors. Such life experiences can impact your daily life, how you cope with stress, and they can lead to serious mental health difficulties. Would you benefit from talking to a neutral person, developing healthy coping skills, and increasing healthy habits? Finding the right therapist to work with makes all the difference and I would love to be of support.

Personal challenges can be difficult but they can also present opportunities for growth and change. I want you to know that you don’t have to face it alone. Maybe you or a loved one is struggling with relationship issues, depression, anxiety, or problems with drugs or alcohol and would like to see how counseling could help.

Are you feeling overwhelmed and alone or suddenly feel that you cannot communicate your needs effectively to those most important in your life? I believe that through the connection that exists in a positive therapeutic relationship, individuals can learn to heal themselves and their relationships while fully experiencing all that life has to offer. As a team we will work together to discover and understand longstanding patterns of thinking and feeling which keep us from fully understanding ourselves and what motivates our behavior. With guidance and support clients will begin to better understand themselves.

At the heart of my practice lies the intersection of science and art, imbued with humor, care, and creativity. Perhaps you find yourself carrying a heavy weight on your shoulder or navigating your days with a tightness in your chest and lack of energy. It’s possible you’ve been prioritizing others’ needs and neglecting your own, or realizing you don’t recognize the script guiding your life. You might be carrying the burden of guilt and shame or finding that your relationships are not what you want them to be.

Are you caught in constant cycles of self-doubt and fears of inadequacy? Repeating unhealthy relationship patterns that hinder authentic emotional connections? Despite your external success, the pressure to maintain the status quo causes overwhelming anxiety or leaves you wiped out and depressed with constant fears of failing. Instead of sharing your struggles you withdraw, leading to an avoidance of vulnerability and feeling disconnected from the people you love. If you’re ready to stop second-guessing your worth and wondering if you truly deserve love or acceptance, therapy with me can help.

I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to engage in self-reflection at some moment in their lives, whether they are transitioning through a phase or struggling with the daily stressors of everyday life that impact well-being. I envision therapy as a collaborative process between therapist and client in which individuals, through guidance and introspection, can reach the best versions of themselves and develop meaningful relationships, self-fulfillment, and mastery over past and present challenges. I hold a multicultural lens with all clients I encounter and recognize the impact of race, ethnicity, and social context.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
