Therapy can be a scary undertaking, but I am here to offer a safe and non-judgmental environment in order to work together towards developing treatment goals. I understand that depression, anxiety, ADHD, OCD, low self-esteem and self-harm can impact daily functioning. We will work together to explore emotions and develop new and effective coping strategies. Working on improving communication skills and boundary setting can make a big difference!

My most important goal working with clients is to build a trusting and safe partnership. I hope to provide an inviting, empathic, supportive, and non-judgmental space to explore the depth of your inner truth and to help you actualize the life you envision for yourself. Together, we will explore past experiences, including family dynamics and your early life, in addition to thoughts, feelings, and current patterns of behavior to provide insight into how you can better cope with issues impacting you now. Often, we are more resilient than we believe we are - I'm here to help you harness that strength and find hope again.

What is a “mindful parent,” exactly? A mindful parent is the one that asks: how do I know that what I am doing is preparing my child mentally and emotionally for an increasingly complex future? How do I optimize the relationship I have with them right now to better ensure they become an adult that is empowered not entitled, self-reliant and compassionate, curious, and competent in a world of increasing artifice? Those are great questions and, luckily, we have the answers. Developmental research has identified ways you can enhance the parent-child relationship to prepare your child for a more secure, autonomous adulthood.

Searching for a therapist is difficult, but finding a good fit is important to making therapy successful. In my work with children, teenagers, and adults, I work to create an environment and process that helps work towards getting out of negative patterns and cycles by learning to identify them.

Are you looking for a better approach toward life, your relationships, your career, life's transitions, your family? Our journey in life causes us to reflect on our experiences, which develop, define, and teach us, not only about ourselves but the lives of those around us and the world itself. Life often has a way of teaching us what we have either longed for, what we need to learn, or what we can learn, to help us work through difficult times, in order to allow ourselves the ability to love ourselves. It’s through these experiences/ times that we become stronger, to allow ourselves to heal to become the best version of ourselves.

You may be entering a new stage in your life, and need support in navigating the stressors of embarking on this new challenge and redefining your relationships with family members. Maybe you are a new parent who knows they want to parent differently from your parents but are unsure of where to start. Or your new role as a parent as brought to the surface your own childhood experiences that you want to explore and process. Maybe you see your child struggling with intense feelings and are seeking support for them.

I became a therapist following a dream to help people navigate life. I specialize in work with children and adolescents, and young adults. I've received extensive post graduate training in treatments I believe in and have seen be effective. Research shows that therapy success of treatment is built on fostering a supportive relationship between client and therapist. I am specifically passionate about helping those that have experience trauma, are in the neurodiverse community, and those in the LGBTQIA+ community.

My approach to working with clients is to create a welcoming environment where the pace is guided by you. Together we can move toward creating a clearer mind. So much of therapy is to discover the root of our feelings. We often get there by processing through somatic work, art-making, and sometimes humor. I am a trained Creative Arts Psychotherapist. You do not have to have "artistic skills" to benefit from working with an art therapist.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
