You're not feeling like yourself. You've been feeling anxious, irritated and out of sorts. In some ways, your life is pretty much where you hoped it would be, but on the inside you're feeling scared. A little lost. And maybe even lonely. You're using all the skills, supports and outlets you can find, because you're the "I can do hard things" kind of person.. But you're not feeling much better. You've got little patience for your partner, your kids and your friends, and you're losing your focus at work. You want better ways to cope with these feelings. And more than that, you want to grow beyond the pain and find inner strength.

You are at the point where you know something has to change, but the question still remains, Who is going to help me? You want a therapist who is trained in how to help, who won’t get overwhelmed by the emotions or the experiences and who gives you confidence and a knowing that life can be better. As a therapist I approach healing by combining both science and art. My toolkit is full of science based methods, EMDR, as well as creative and cognitive approaches to help you heal and build hope. Working with you, I’ll challenge you to be open to explore the silly, the weird, the embarrassing and challenging experiences life brings.

You’ve been looking for someone to help you you feel better - emotionally, physically and energetically. The anxiety and past hurts have taken their toll and you are tired and worn out. I help people who need a different way, beyond just talking about the past, to heal their anxiety and pain. Don't worry, I won't put you into the "one size fits all" therapy plan. Rather, together with you, we map out a plan using creative & science based methods to help you! Most of my clients reach out seeking relief from toxic family of origins, and I help them find a way to release the pain, let go of the burdens and shake off the sadness.

Perhaps you have known this for quite some time or maybe you have only now come to realize an important truth - that this is not how you want to feel, not where you want to be, & it's time for change. Change can be really scary and overwhelming, maybe even foreign. Of course, evolution doesn't happen overnight, so naturally you may ask how & when does it happen? Good questions!

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
