Attention...what does it take to get our attention? Usually, it's something unfamiliar. I work with individuals who experience a "symptom," a grief, a depression, an anxiety, a life-threatening illness, a crisis in an important relationship; a time when you are asked to pause, to pay attention to your self and bring curiosity to your life. A symptom is an invitation to look at the story of your life and visit where you have felt alone and where you need to come home to yourself in order to make this issue transform and experience more fulfillment.

I approach my work with clients from a deep conviction that all people have the ability to elicit lasting change, find internal calm, and make more skillful decisions if given the right tools. I believe in the ability of each of us to shift our perceived setbacks and struggles into opportunities for growth and learning. I see my role with clients as a non-judgmental witness, curious co-collaborator, and vessel for authenticity.

I offer a wide range of treatment modalities, including mind-body therapies as well as traditional psychotherapy. These include CBT, Somatic Experiencing (SE), Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, and EMDR. My style is active, engaging and focused on achieving client goals within a time limited framework. Having 25 years experience as a therapist, combined with specialty treatments, allows for shorter therapy time and a high degree of success. Lengthy therapy is unnecessary in order to experience positive results and achieve desired goals. I work with both individuals and couples.

Feelings are messengers that guide us into a fuller, more vibrant life. They help us know what is best for us, create meaning in our lives, and motivate us to take action toward positive change. If we allow space and listen to their wisdom, movement toward the life we long to lead becomes possible. Bringing warmth and empathy, I provide a supportive environment where clients can explore unprocessed feelings, long-standing beliefs, and untapped wisdom.

Welcome. I realize how hard it can be to take the step and seek therapy, and I’m so glad you’re here. There are times we can feel lost, stuck, sad, anxious and overindulge in eating or spending money; but, believe it or not, these ways our body is warning us and trying to protect us. I work with women in various stages of life. Whether you’re a mom struggling with balancing your own emotions, while working tirelessly to also help co-regulate your own children; or a woman without kids, struggling with the everyday demands of seeking work/life balance; or a young adult just getting started, and transitioning from “kid" to "adult.”

I provide Body/Mind/Spirit Trauma Resolution tx that facilitates emotional & physiological healing, empowering clients to learn self compassion as they rewrite their life narrative. We often move through our old stories that influence our present. As an experienced practitioner of Somatic Experiencing (SE), and Psychodrama, I use body based action methods to bring clients into the heart of their stories. SE brings awareness to the connection between sensations and affect to free up the tangles in the nervous system caused by traumatic events that can result in living out of alignment with our true nature.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
