Thinking of therapy? Ask us for the first session free. IPG paved the way for other Queer-affirmative therapists. Founded in 1983 specifically to serve the LGBTQ+ community, back when most practitioners viewed it as a mental illness, we are still trailblazers, working with trans/GNC folks, bi/pansexuals, the kink/BDSM community, consensual nonmonogamists, and others who make up the "Q+" in LGBTQ+. You may not want therapy because you are gay, but you likely want a therapist who is not only affirming but knowledgeable. We understand the special issues of LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families, and we provide sex therapy as well.

Thinking of therapy? Ask us for the first session free, for a limited time. IPG has roughly 30 therapists over three NJ offices: Highland Park, Freehold, and Jersey City. Since 1983 we've combined compassionate care with high-level expertise. We provide individual, family, child, and relationship counseling for concerns ranging from depression to life transitions to marital strife. We have a special focus on the LGBTQ community, including transgender/GNC youth, but we see clients from all walks of life. We also have many other niche specialties such as sex therapy, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy, and eating disorders.

We all want to be genuinely seen, heard and understood. Whether the pain stems from the past, major life changes or simply feeling lost, therapy is a safe place to express your feelings without the fear of judgement. It is an amazing way to partner up and connect with someone who will support you. In these difficult times, it is important to find someone who can hold space for you to help untangle the web of confusion that may exist within. I aim to create a safe, warm and therapeutic atmosphere. You will be met with someone with a genuine desire to understand and who strongly believes that there is always hope.

I listen closely and on multiple levels to the people with whom I work. I want to hear how you think, how you experience the world, and how you feel. I'm fascinated by how psychotherapy, and psychoanalysis, can be thought of as processes of democratic empowerment and how we can create together movement towards freeing your desire and intuition to serve as guides for you. Whatever array of symptoms (anxiety, depression, relationship conflict, trauma) that you struggle with, we will seek to unlock the hold they have on you so that you may gain greater personal freedom, creativity, and clarity around your sense of purpose and destiny.

How many times have you said to yourself, "I've got to stop doing this"? And then you do it again. I know because I've worked with hundreds of people, individually and in groups, who have said the same thing. But together we have found a way to get them unstuck and onto a path of increased self-esteem and happiness. Whether the issue is putting unhealthy food in your body or not effectively communicating, I'm here to help you identify the patterns that are keeping you stuck so that you can take charge of your life.

Greetings! It is a fundamental part of the human condition to have hope and a purpose in our lives, work, & relationships. Too often, these dimensions of our existence go overlooked and untouched in favor of addressing mental-emotional well-being through the lens of a medical model which emphasizes pathology and the need to consult with an expert to solve our problems. I am here to encourage you in this: You can learn to be the expert in your own life! My role is to journey with you towards this realization, so that you can ultimately stand on this truth. To do this, we will work together to help you establish a central life Hope.

We’re pleased you’ve made your first step towards healing. We understand that seeking help, whether for yourself or for your children isn’t always easy. Unfortunately, life doesn’t come with a user’s manual, and when times get tough, many of us are left feeling confused, angry, depressed and helpless. While we can’t provide you with a magical user’s manual to life, we can offer you an ancient symbol of peace, an olive branch. We want to help you extend that olive branch to not only the important relationships in your life but to yourself as well. Because at the end of the day, we all deserve inner peace.

I help clients to strengthen their sense of resiliency, knowing that they have the power to choose to use the skills discussed in sessions to better their lives. I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults and help them to better understand their issues and the factors maintaining them; this awareness helps my clients to regain control and live more fulfilling and joyous lives. I help my clients to see that their past does not define their future, as well as strengthen their willingness to accept current circumstances so that they can live more presently, each day.

I'm a unique therapist that treats a wide array of mental health disorders. We focus on resolving past and current issues/trauma, finding solutions and eliciting organic change. If we are not solving your problems, I am wasting your time. My practice goes far beyond talk therapy, we do work. We explore childhood, adolescent and other lifetime experiences that impact our psychological functioning. To permanently resolve our disorders we must revisit and resolve these thoughts, feelings and events. I utilize DBT as part of my treatment approach and we engage from the first minute we meet.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
