I view therapy as a laboratory for fostering meaningful change and self-discovery. I practice from an integrative perspective, focusing on creating a healing and empathetic relationship that incorporates a range of evidence-based modalities to move towards a more fulfilling, resilient, and harmonious life. I’m particularly drawn to working within the Internal Family Systems model, an attachment-based modality that uplifts the complexity and wisdom of our internal worlds and strengthens our inherent capacity to heal burdened parts of our systems and develop compassionate, strengths-based relationships with ourselves and others.

Drawing from attachment-based, mindfulness, and parts work models, I support clients in uncovering their own innate capacity to heal and grow.
Therapy is a wonderful space to build resilience. Through cultivating awareness of our thoughts, feelings, and sensations, we can break unwanted patterns of avoidance, reactivity, or shutting down. Through replacing judgment with mindfulness and self-criticism with self-compassion, we gain a greater sense of agency. Through understanding ourselves within our biological, social, and historical context, we are reminded of a shared humanity.

Rosa utilizes attachment-based theories along with psychodynamic theory, CBT, trauma-informed care, sex-positive therapy, mindfulness, and EFT with clients.
As your empathic, culturally-sensitive guide, I believe in your strengths as you set sail upon your journey of development and exploration. I work to empower, give language, and hold space for my clients to gain a deeper understanding about what you are experiencing. I will create a safe, judgment-free space to support you in learning about the areas in your life where you may feel stuck, drained, anxious, or depressed. We will explore how they are preventing you from having successful relationships or a more fulfilled life.

My approach includes principles and techniques from CBT, DBT, psychodynamic, and attachment-based therapy, as well as motivational interviewing.
Embarking on a journey toward healing and purpose can be equally hopeful and daunting. Maybe you have experienced trauma that is currently resurfacing in disruptive ways. Or, you have challenges with engaging in fulfilling relationships. Perhaps you're starting to realize that your familiar coping strategies have stopped serving you. Whatever the hurdle is, I'm glad you're here. I work with folks who have granted themselves the permission and grace to explore issues related to their emotional distress, intersecting identities, complex trauma, maladaptive relational patterns, addictive behaviors, and self-acceptance.

Life can bring uncertainty and pain that we need help to navigate and heal from. Are you feeling unhappy or lost? Having relationship difficulties? Worried about the future? Have you endured great losses or hardships that are leaving you feeling confused, isolated or unlovable? You do not have to shoulder this alone. Maybe you want to feel fulfilled or joyful. Maybe you want to cultivate meaningful relationships. Maybe you want to grow in ways you never thought possible. I am passionate about helping people put the pieces of themselves back together in a way that leaves them feeling inspired and open to life's possibilities.

I use experiential therapy to help you move through barriers so you can arrive into your body with compassion and connection. From this place, we can explore your relationship to self and others, come to understand patterns that create stuckness, and practice new skills so you can embody insights, change and self-belonging.

I utilize a variety of modalities and evidence-based practices including: Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Attachment-Based Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, IFS, ACT, and Mindfulness to help people struggling with anxiety, depression, weight management, hoarding behaviors, and unresolved past trauma.
Beginning therapy can be scary, intimidating, and stressful, but can also make a big difference in your life. There are times we feel stuck, lost, confused, angry, or hurt. Periods when relationships feel like they’re falling apart, life feels aimless, or we feel unhappy and can’t quite pinpoint why. For some this is new, while for others it can be a lifelong struggle. Therapy provides a safe space for processing thoughts and feelings, for exploring the past and its influence over the present, and for risking change. Therapy can help you cope with challenges and make sense of what has happened so you can gather the skills to grow.

I work from an Attachment-based approach, and explore patterns that get in the way of living the life you desire.
Are you feeling overwhelmed, struggling with relationships or dealing with a big life transition? Are you feeling helpless or wondering if your life will ever get back on track? When these challenges arise, every aspect of your life can be negatively impacted. By exploring more fully these experiences and gaining a greater understanding of yourself, you can begin to heal. This might include a fresh look at your job, key relationships, and whether or not you are clear on how you want to live your life. This exploration can lead to greater self esteem, more meaningful relationships and hope for the future.

I approach therapy with curiosity, connection, insight, compassion, and a splash of humor. I aim to create an environment where you can feel safe to explore, discover and embrace your truest and highest self. I believe an essential task of therapy is to foster reflection in order to develop self-awareness, leading to a greater ability to effectively navigate life. I primarily practice through a relational and attachment-based psychodynamic lens. I believe that the relationship dynamics you have with yourself, others, and the world are the primary factors in both emotional well-being and emotional distress.

I use an attachment-based/relational approach to help build capacity for internal reflection so we can uncover and work through psychological processes that are operating under the surface and contributing to the symptoms and issues that are causing you distress.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with over 15 years of direct clinical experience. I specialize in working with culturally diverse young adults (aprx age 18-35) who are having difficulty regulating themselves and experiencing some level of emotional and/or behavioral distress, which sometimes leads to significant problems in school, at work, and/or in relationships with oneself and others. Often, this distress can be eased with increased self-awareness that supports your ability to regulate your internal experience so your emotions feel manageable, your thoughts are more comforting, and you have more control over your behavior.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
