I am a licensed clinical social worker with a decade of experience in providing therapy for individuals and couples. I seek to create a space that is safe, non-judgemental and authentic, and am present with you as a helper in your process of healing and change. My scope of work includes relationship issues, challenges with emotional and physical intimacy, anxious cycles of thinking, feeling disconnected from one's self or others, feelings of ‘stuckness’ and/or difficulty in life transitions. In therapy we will practice tuning into your feelings, thoughts and beliefs that can help guide you.

I specialize in trauma and am fully trained in Attachment-Based EMDR.
Good therapy strikes a balance between compassion and challenge. How does the past influence daily life? What old patterns and programing run the show?.. and where is change necessary? I work with individuals, couples and families on issues of self esteem, trauma, depression and anxiety. I treat all ages including young people struggling with the stressors of adulthood; as well as older adults facing life changes. The first step in healing is a genuine and unconditional connection to a caring therapist. Reach out to start!

I pull from various therapeutic approaches, particularly psychodynamic, attachment-based, and trauma-informed.
My guiding therapeutic belief is that each person is unconditionally valid and worthy of positive regard, no matter what you may be going through. I cultivate an environment where you can show up fully, exactly as you are. From that solid foundation, we can work on untangling distressing symptoms, entrenched patterns, or negative beliefs that may no longer be serving you. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, gender and sexual identity, trauma history, disordered eating, ADHD, and relationship issues.

I use a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework and balance careful listening with thoughtful probing.
As humans, we tend to avoid our more difficult and complex emotions in hopes that they will disappear. However, it is more often the case that the feelings we turn inward find their way out, and sometimes in a less-than-ideal way. Therapy is a unique space to explore the parts of you that tend to stay hidden. It is a space to “look beneath the hood” to understand more fully who you are and "why" you are. With this newfound insight, we can explore ways for you to engage more fully in your life and relationships, dig into your sense of purpose, and reconnect with (or discover for the first time) feelings of stillness and joy.

You excel in one or more areas of your life, yet you silently struggle with feelings of being unworthy and unlovable. Sometimes you may even feel like an outsider in your own life. Maybe you buy nice things, or go on amazing trips, but for some reason you still don’t feel happy. You may hide behind your work and push people away because you are afraid to let them know who you really are. This is not what you want to be doing but you can’t help it. This is not your fault. You are doing the best you can with the resources you were given. At The Empowerment Opportunity, we will help you tap into different resources within yourself.

My approach is rooted in trauma-informed, attachment-based and anti-oppression frameworks.
My goal as a clinician is to create a safe space where we can work through issues that may be causing you distress, and eventually celebrate your positive growth. I may be a particularly good fit for those seeking support around interpersonal relationships, life transitions, trauma, anxiety or depression. Together, we will explore the patterns in your life that are no longer serving you. I am also a certified perinatal mental health provider and have a special interest in working with folks navigating challenges around parenthood including postpartum depression/anxiety, birth trauma, pregnancy loss and infertility.

Every person deserves to be heard, understood, and recognized for their unique qualities; that wonderful feeling of relief when someone finally understands you, empathizes with you, and just “gets you” is truly incomparable. I truly believe that more important than any skill or technique I've learned is the importance of the relationship between my client and myself. My clients will have a space where they can be themselves and will begin the process of understanding, accepting, and valuing themselves.

People often come to psychotherapy feeling stuck, angry, wound up, or adrift. Beneath the surface are important and unmet needs. By recognizing these, we can start shifting patterns that get in our way and communicate more clearly with others. I work with children, adolescents and adults. My approach is curious, warm, and actively engaged. I draw on my extensive training in psychodynamic and attachment-based interventions, initiating change by understanding the past experiences that shape our reactions and patterns in present-day relationships. I also incorporate emotion regulation skills and mindfulness techniques, as appropriate.

My specialties include Men, Couples Therapy, Attachment-based Trauma, and Sexuality/Intimacy struggles.
I strive to be a therapist who is challenging and direct without being judgmental; is open-minded and encouraging of my clients to explore options in their lives that may be different than my own or others around them. I am someone who doesn't rush to diagnose and pathologize, but rather seeks to understand. I am not invested in the choices my clients make, I am invested in my clients making choices from a place of wholeheartedness. And specifically, I have a keen understanding of the intricacies of intimacy and sexuality within relationship to oneself and community. As long as we "fail forward" together, we are perfectly imperfect

We’ve all felt stuck, trapped, alone at some point in our lives. Whether you’re here because of a loss, change in health, parenting struggles, anxiety, depression, stress, or just looking to feel more fulfilled in life, I thank you for taking that first step. It wasn’t easy getting here, but you’re here and you’re ready to make a change. You have inside, the ability to re-build, to move away from the old way of thinking – those old stories – that are not your words, and to create new connections.

As an integrative therapist, my approach is warm, trauma-informed and attachment-based with a combination of art therapy and talk psychotherapy.
Life is a continuous process. Maybe it is a process of relationship struggle or life transition. We may feel anxious and stuck in repetitive patterns and find it difficult to pinpoint the reason. Partnering with me, we will pay close attention to your physical sensations, embodied emotions, and internal world. My immigrant background helps me attune with BIPOC communities, especially with Asian-Americans and international students. We can use a combination of art and talk to work through anxiety, trauma, cross-cultural adjustment, low self-esteem, being a people-pleaser, or perfectionist tendency.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
