Working through the lens of attachment and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, I support clients with navigating religious or attachment-based childhood trauma, cultural expectations (including around gender and sexuality), and ordinary day-to-day experiences.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, grappling with grief, or carrying the weight of loneliness, guilt, or shame, know that you're not alone. Especially if you identify as Queer and/or BI/POC, navigating these emotions within cultural and familial dynamics can feel like an uphill journey. But you don't have to climb that mountain by yourself. I'm here to offer a warm and compassionate space to feel your emotions without fear or judgment, process attachment and trauma experiences, and uncover patterns rooted in childhood.

If you are dealing with anxiety, depression, or trauma you know how debilitating these conditions can be. It is even more so challenging when navigating these struggles in a foreign or oppressive culture. I’ve dealt with this first hand and I know how rare it is to find somebody that can relate to one’s lived experience. By providing a listening ear and a compassionate space I can help support you on your healing journey.

In order to shift anything, one must reach, with a gentle touch, the parts of ourselves that are able to transform. It’s only human to want to heal in order to function at our optimal capacity, whatever that might be for us. I passionately hold that we could all use a way to slow down our rapidly evolving lives—a way to hold space for what drives us forward, or slows us down in ways we’d like to speed up. Therapy is a space to peel back layers to help you move toward being fully expressed, in steady, easy participation with your life—even with its inevitable ups and downs and the in-between spaces.

Wherever you are in your life’s journey, you don’t have to go through it alone. It can be challenging to understand why we are going through a difficulty in our life, but more importantly, it can be difficult to identify our own needs during these times. As a trained Art Therapist, I utilize talk therapy along with creative self-expression. I work from an intersectional and social justice framework, and as a female therapist of color I am committed to validating personal experiences and intersections of identity including race, ethnicity, and gender.

Do you find yourself increasingly overwhelmed by life’s day-to-day challenges at work and home from the unprecedented events going on in today’s faced paced, world? Perhaps you are going through some unexpected life transitions? I can provide additional support to assist you with learning and developing new skills, increasing self-esteem, personal growth, and healing. Gowing up in a single parent household as the child of Caribbean immigrant parents, I experienced how issues affecting low income, minority, and underserved populations, can often lead to misinformation and stigma regarding accessing mental health services.

Few things are harder than struggling alone. You might be holding onto pain from your family, friends, or past relationships. Or it could feel like you're stuck inside a traumatic event that chains your life. It might feel like no one understands how deeply sad, intensely angry, or desperately helpless you feel. But you're not alone. Healing from trauma is not just a concept; it is an attainable reality. It would be an honor to be invited on your journey towards healing, reparation and building a life worth living. I believe the goal of therapy is not just to stop the suffering, but to create a sustained life of thriving and joy.

I believe that every individual has great potential and deserves to live a fulfilling life; I also recognize that difficulties and obstacles are inevitable. My goal for therapy is to create a safe space for my clients to explore how those difficulties and obstacles may affect them — physically, mentally, emotionally, or spiritually — and to use the therapeutic space to practice bringing forward their strengths so that they can see themselves beyond their problems. When you come to me, you’re not just my client. You’re a fellow human with hopes, dreams, vulnerabilities, strengths, weaknesses and ultimately potential.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
