I thrive helping you shift such frustrations in a way that feels inviting, safe, dynamic, inspiring and with added humor to the mix. How do we go about transforming such vulnerablities into powerful gifts? How can you grow in understanding, self worth, and confidence instead of self doubt, inadequacy, guilt and shame? It starts with the FIRST STEP of asking me to help you and I will be here to be with you on this journey.

Finding a therapist to start the journey toward healing can be scary, but it does not have to be. Through therapy together we can work towards achieving your goal in a safe, compassionate, and authentic environment. Our feelings can shed light on understanding the complexities of our lives and situations. Often emotions are layered, causing us to feel lost, confused, anxious, and even powerless. Life changes can occur without a formal "heads up" whether it's starting something new like a career, school, or relationship or even parenting can feel daunting without the proper support.

When do we seek therapy? when we feel overwhelmed, depressed, stressed, anxious, stagnated, confused, challenged, lonely...when we are unhappy. Simple like that. And what are some therapy expectations that we have? To stop feeling overwhelmed, depressed, stressed, anxious, stagnated etc..,to stop being unhappy.  I have good news for you! This is attainable. Yes, you can stop being unhappy. However, do you want to be happy? Silly question I know. But tell me please, after all this negativity that you experience do you have the expectation to be happy?Let me answer, most of the people say “no".

I am a doctor of clinical social work, board certified in oncology care, whose goal it is to provide a compassionate space for therapy. In my many years of experience in cancer care in a healthcare setting, my work has afforded me the opportunity to support individuals, families, and loved ones through life threatening and life-limiting illness, trauma, grief, loss, existential distress, and the search for meaning in the face of adversity. In life, there is suffering for us all in different ways and we can perhaps find meaning in the pain, purpose in the loss, and comfort through the journey.

I offer individual psychotherapy for adults in Queens, NY and online. In my collaborative work with clients I help people gain more insight in themselves and their relationships, examine the role of the past into the present and bring attention and curiosity to different parts of themselves in order to help them feel empowered to create the changes they want to make. I also use Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR), a powerful technique for reprocessing trauma if needed.

Asking for help is one of the strongest things you can do; but it can also be one of the hardest because of past experience of not being heard, believed, or supported. Extreme stressors and traumatic events-including new or ongoing health conditions-affect every aspect of our lives & can make relationships-with family& friends very challenging. The impact of these events can make us feel isolated, misunderstood,& unsupported(even by the well-intentioned).They can also lead us to make choices we are not proud of and limit our enjoyment of life in general. I specialize in anxiety/depression/life transitions/pelvic floor dysfunction.

One of the most courageous things we can do is to begin to understand our own story. What often precedes healing, however, is profound confusion and discomfort which deters us from delving deeper within. The process of growth is often accompanied by fear of the unknown and thus, can appear a daunting task. But you are not alone. My goal is to walk alongside you as you come to know yourself and navigate the path to a happier, healthier life. More importantly, what are your goals? What makes you feel safe? Therapy strengthens our insight by compassionately confronting us with the questions we have never dared to ask ourselves before.

I am licensed in both New York and California with over 16 years of clinical experience. I love working with folks who are looking to reflect on the things in their lives they want more and less of, the things that bring them joy and pain and work to maximize and minimize them accordingly. If you are willing to be vulnerable and open within a safe space and prepared to work through challenges and changes as needed, contact me for a consultation to see if we might work well together.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
