We’ve all felt stuck, trapped, alone at some point in our lives. Whether you’re here because of a loss, change in health, parenting struggles, anxiety, depression, stress, or just looking to feel more fulfilled in life, I thank you for taking that first step. It wasn’t easy getting here, but you’re here and you’re ready to make a change. You have inside, the ability to re-build, to move away from the old way of thinking – those old stories – that are not your words, and to create new connections.

Therapy is one of the most worthwhile investments you can make in yourself. Though the decision to start therapy might feel overwhelming, it offers the unique opportunity to reflect, heal, and create a life that feels most authentic to you. With a psychodynamic and attachment-based approach, I work with clients to explore past and present experiences, and enable self-awareness from within. Together, we will focus on transforming your relationship with yourself and others through identifying and repairing patterns that have left you feeling stuck or unfulfilled.

I am a therapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. My approach is collaborative as therapy is a unique relationship. We begin with identifying where you are now while focusing on where you want to be. I use many different techniques in discovering the most effective path for you. For example, cognitive-behavioral therapy is very effective with issues such as anxiety and depression, while using an attachment-based lens can improve low self-esteem and relationship issues. If you are looking for an interactive therapist and are ready and willing to do the work, I will help you along your journey!

I firmly believe in the inherent potential of each person to become their optimal self. Life's journey often presents us with unforeseen challenges and overwhelming transitions that can impede our progress. These circumstances may hinder our ability to live fully. My primary objective is to establish a nurturing environment where individuals can cultivate positive and sustainable changes through the foundation of a therapeutic alliance. By fostering this connection, I aspire to empower individuals to navigate life's complexities and unlock their fullest potential.

Making the decision to start therapy is one the best gifts you can give yourself. That might sound a bit cliché, but giving yourself permission to focus on your own needs and discover more about yourself can be an incredible process. This is especially true if perhaps you’ve gotten used to putting the needs of others first, by being a caregiver to a parent or family member who may be struggling with a physical or mental illness or substance misuse. Learning to put the focus back on yourself and figuring out what gives you happiness and fulfillment is one the many ways that a good therapeutic relationship can enrich your life.

Paradoxically, we look for a therapist when the time is the most difficult. We may be coping with anxiety, distress or uncertainty about a crisis in life. Under these circumstances we are looking for someone who we can confide in, with whom we can feel safe, and who understands us. As a therapist for over 35 years, I have experience with these feelings. We each have unique ways of wresting with life's experiences. I try to establish a nonjudgmental, empathic partnership so that we can explore meaningful ways to improve your life.

Clients come to me when they have reached a crossroads in their life. Life may have suddenly become challenging because of conflicts in employment, family relationships, or dating/romantic relationships in a way that is overwhelming and difficult to understand. Sometimes we come to a place in our lives where we desire better for ourselves. However, we recognize the way we have been operating is no longer working. We need to process our past and present experiences to get to a place of personal freedom. *~~~Please email for inquiries. Phone calls are difficult to track. Thank you~~~*

I work with clients who know they need to make a change, but are not sure where to begin. My ideal clients desire to improve their personal and professional lives, but need help with navigating change, coping with grief and loss, building healthy relationships, creating balance, and regaining control of their own lives. It's not always so simple. Some of our problems arise from patterns of behavior stemming from past experiences that we may have forgotten, but our nervous systems have not. Our bodies hold on to pain, but also harness the power to heal. I work with people who are ready to explore and harness that power.

You’re so tired. And you’re tired of saying you’re tired. Especially after these exhausting COVID years. It’s so hard to turn your mind off from your worries and your endless to-do list. You’re overwhelmed, wondering when things will get easier. You provide so much care to others, but you get lost in the shuffle. Your temper flares easily. So much has changed in your life, and you wonder if you will feel like yourself again. Care work is incredibly hard and often invisible, and caring for yourself in the midst of that is even harder.

I believe effective psychotherapy is built on trust. When emotional engagement and support are established, the therapist/client relationship can work to facilitate recovery from many conditions as diverse as depression, anxiety, grief and loss, chronic stress, and even psychosomatic disorders. The work of therapy involves learning new ways of managing emotions, changing behaviors that contribute to problems, and challenging faulty assumptions often rooted in earlier experiences.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
