My clients often appreciate an eclectic approach utilizing somatic, relational, attachment-based, mindfulness-based (MBCT), psychodynamic, & Internal Family Systems (IFS) modalities.
Have you tried traditional talk therapy and find yourself hitting a plateau? Are you experiencing trauma and PTSD due to a break-up, divorce, grief, sexual addiction, infidelity, love addiction, or sexual abuse and wonder if relief will ever be available to you? Perhaps you're curious if the growing field of psychedelic-assisted therapy could help you find the change you are seeking. If so, you've come to the right place. I specialize in helping people find the breakthroughs they desire through an eclectic approach, including trauma-based therapy, somatic parts work, and psychedelic assisted therapy (currently utilizing ketamine).

Each of our therapists are trained in a range of modalities, as: Attachment-based, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Psychodynamic, Mindfulness, Trauma-focused, and more.
When confronted with unforeseen challenges, we often do not know how to approach them and feel overwhelmed in the process. These challenges or experiences could be internal, interpersonal, environmental, or all the above. At NCS, we provide counseling services to help our clients process difficult emotions, provide coping skills, and collaborate to create the life path they desire.

It can be really challenging to navigate an ever-changing world, especially if we enter each season struggling to carry the weight of the past. We learn survival strategies that are often hard to unlearn, and it can feel like we will always be stuck in our same old patterns of suffering. I offer non-judgmental support to people who want to find more aliveness in their minds and bodies. Through this partnership, we aim to build your capacity to feel and deal with emotions in kind yet effective ways, and develop compassionate habits that can lead to self trust. In doing so, we can create more room for ease, meaning, and joy.

I am a trained and experienced therapist in relational psychoanalysis as well as traumatology. I was part of bringing these two together some decades ago. In addition I understand eating problems and body image distortion. My professional writing covers these areas. I work with hypnosis, guided visualization and the body, as well as sharing a deepening conversation about you. I want to meet you right there with curiosity, warmth, growing empathy and care. I am an open and informal person by nature yet, of course, I work within professional boundaries. It is about you. I look forward to meeting you.

I'm here to work with your needs as a client, to help you understand yourself better and to empower you on your journey of growth and healing. In therapy we will build upon your own inner strength and authentic self to process and heal pain or psychological injuries that may be getting in the way of living a healthy, integrated and fulfilling life. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process: we will work together to navigate and explore any problems or patterns in your life that may be contributing to the challenges that you face. I am not a therapist that will tell you what to do, but I will help you explore all the parts that make up YOU, including the parts of you that are resilient and know the way forward.

Do you want to learn a new and healthier way of being in the world? Many people come to therapy because they are using old coping skills that helped them survive difficult experiences, but no longer serve them now that they are out of that situation. Instead of feeling shame about these anxious, fearful, or angry responses, I help patients accept those parts of themselves while also strengthening parts that seek love and growth. We’ll also explore how traumatic experiences don’t just happen at the interpersonal level, but often result from larger systems of oppression, which we can then internalize.

You are not broken, you do not need to be fixed, and you are enough. The circumstances you have faced and symptoms you experience are very real, but they do not define you. I strongly believe we as humans are resilient and capable of healing ourselves when we actively choose to. Through my years of working with survivors of trauma, I have found many symptoms, habits, and reactions to simply be adaptions; Ways in which the nervous system learned to cope with unsafe, chaotic, and/or unpredictable environments.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
