With children and families, I utilize attachment-based interventions, play therapy and parent-child psychotherapy.
Understanding the dynamics behind the repeating processes in your life, whether they are symptoms or undesirable patterns, is the first step for meaningful and durable change. I work with both adults and children who have different forms of anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, or stressful life transitions. I also work with children who present with developmental or behavioral issues.

My work integrates Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) with psychodynamic, attachment-based and trauma-centered approaches.
We all have the capacity to heal. With the right safety and support, we can come home to ourselves, allow difficult emotions to be released, and re-author old stories to create new meaning in our lives. I use experiential therapy to help you move through barriers so you can arrive into your body with compassion and connection. From this place, we can explore your relationship to self and others, come to understand patterns that create stuckness, and practice new skills so you can embody insights, change and self-belonging.

I am a therapist with over 25 years of clinical experience. My approach is collaborative as therapy is a unique relationship. We begin with identifying where you are now while focusing on where you want to be. I use many different techniques in discovering the most effective path for you. For example, cognitive-behavioral therapy is very effective with issues such as anxiety and depression, while using an attachment-based lens can improve low self-esteem and relationship issues. If you are looking for an interactive therapist and are ready and willing to do the work, I will help you along your journey!

My specialties include Men, Couples Therapy, Attachment-based Trauma, and Sexuality/Intimacy struggles.
I strive to be a therapist who is challenging and direct without being judgmental; is open-minded and encouraging of my clients to explore options in their lives that may be different than my own or others around them. I am someone who doesn't rush to diagnose and pathologize, but rather seeks to understand. I am not invested in the choices my clients make, I am invested in my clients making choices from a place of wholeheartedness. And specifically, I have a keen understanding of the intricacies of intimacy and sexuality within relationship to oneself and community. As long as we "fail forward" together, we are perfectly imperfect

Therapy is a noble, intimate, and sometimes messy undertaking. Those who come to it may hope to relieve emotional pain, expand their understanding of themselves and their life narrative, or access more moments of joy and presence. Together, we can help you move towards what you might otherwise shy away from, understand the source of challenges, and find new ways of coping and being in the world. I work from a psychodynamic, attachment-based framework, and blend tangible skills to help alleviate your pain in the day-to-day and enhance your relationships.

I am also a trained attachment-based EMDR therapist, a powerful modality to process trauma when words don't seem to cut it.
I start with listening and seek to cultivate a perspective that enlivens, enlightens and unburdens. I use an integrative psychoanalytic approach founded in curiosity and collaboration to address problems relating to trauma, depression, anxiety or self-esteem that can undermine ones ability to thrive interpersonally, creatively, sexually or professionally. Whether it's a life-change, a search for meaning, creative blocks, frustration with the quality of relationships or something else, I will meet you there. Through listening and talking, we will explore internal experience and how it impacts relating to oneself and others.

I approach therapy with curiosity, connection, insight, compassion, and a splash of humor. I aim to create an environment where you can feel safe to explore, discover and embrace your truest and highest self. I believe an essential task of therapy is to foster reflection in order to develop self-awareness, leading to a greater ability to effectively navigate life. I primarily practice through a relational and attachment-based psychodynamic lens. I believe that the relationship dynamics you have with yourself, others, and the world are the primary factors in both emotional well-being and emotional distress.

As a psychotherapist, I deeply believe that the therapeutic relationship can be a powerful vehicle for healing and growth. When we are seen, heard, and felt by another, we are able to connect more closely to what is happening within us. Through insight and process we are empowered to tackle patterns and behaviors that no longer serve us, and honor ones that do. It is my goal to hold space for and collaborate with my clients to sustain meaningful, self directed change in their lives.

I help clients to develop curiosity and compassion about their inner lives and desires, guiding them towards healing, pleasure, and joy. I approach therapy as a collaboration in which we get to know your inner world together. I help you to uncover the psychological, somatic, and sensory experiences that have shaped how you approach the world, providing opportunities for freedom, choice, and transformation. In both individual and couples therapy, I use mindfulness and embodiment to help you build awareness of your own wants, needs, emotions, and desires, creating a foundation for clear communication, intimacy, and understanding.

At times in life, we find ourselves overwhelmed; in states of persistent mental or emotional distress, stuck in patterns that no longer serve us, and questioning which path best serves us. With greater consciousness of our patterns of thought, feeling and behavior, we can develop the capacity to meet these moments with the wisdom of our whole selves. By connecting more fully to our emotions, we can access our innate healing process and move towards greater integration. In honoring your unique story, we can explore how life’s suffering may be pointing you towards greater wholeness and a life of meaning.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
