If you have arrived here, likely your habitual tools that once served you are no longer working. Or perhaps they never were, and you can no longer ignore this reality. You may feel lost, hopeless, helpless, or a combination of challenging emotions. I am here to tell you that you will not feel this way forever. Through an attachment-based, IFS, and trauma-informed lens, I will assist you in addressing the root causes of your suffering. No band-aids here; I believe the only way to live free of trauma, negative self-talk, poor self-esteem, depression, anxiety, or addiction is to face the origin story head-on.

Do you feel stuck in patterns of behaviors that are self defeating? Do you feel like the color has gone out of your life? Are you longing for meaningful relationships but can't seem to create them? With every issue we confront, there's a tremendous opportunity for feeling revitalized. But to do this we must feel metaphorically held by another. That's where therapy comes in.

Some of my therapeutic offerings include inner child work, mindfulness skills, depth and attachment-based psychotherapy, Imago relational therapy, expressive art therapy and somatic work.
I believe that throughout our lifetime each of us is called to discover and integrate who we truly are. We’re called to uncover our true nature(s) beneath the debris of trauma and old conditioning. We’re called to set ourselves free. This process of integration is central to long-lasting wellness because it is precisely from this place that we’re able to participate fully in our lives and our relationships. Through the process of integration, we get to discover parts we have forgotten, we get to grow a capable inner parent and we get to connect with and heal our inner child.

I approach problems from a trauma-focused lens and help clients explore how past experiences are influencing their present circumstances; therefore, I use attachment-based and psychodynamic interventions.
In my practice, I provide non-judgmental support, guidance through challenges, and help with building a sense of empowerment. Building therapeutic rapport that allows clients to open up can take time, and I’m able to make space for that. I work best with clients who have experienced problems relating to anxiety, attachment trauma, complex trauma, depression, life transitions, and relationship issues. I work to provide a holding space and allow clients to choose the direction and pace of therapy. I'm open to working with teenagers, though speaking more in-depth about this matter will be important in determining if I'll be a good fit.

I believe that healing comes through the caring and dynamic engagement created between human beings. Thus, my approach is interactive and our time together will be a collaboration that encourages mutual presence and relatedness. Research confirms the importance of this. While no specific technique is consistently effective in eliciting change; certain therapists, who bring a particular presence and sensitivity to their work, often are. I believe I am such a therapist and this is largely because of the intention I bring to our work together along with my advanced training in depth psychology and relationally oriented psychotherapy.

I have a long history of working with children and families. I treat children of all ages and adults. I address attachment issues, academics, oppositional defiance, grief, loss and trauma. This is often complicated and usually requires the involvement of the whole family. I love working with children and find that there are always solutions and ways to accommodate the most difficult situations. I use a variety of modalities including play therapy which includes sand tray, art and a variety of other ways for self expression for children .

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
