As a trauma therapist, I have worked with survivors of all types. Many of my clients are social workers, caregivers, therapists, counselors, parents, and helpers themselves. I have extensive training in Attachment Therapy and Narrative Therapy. My two dogs are usually in session with me. They are older and will leave you with "puppy glitter" (dog hair) on your clothing. I have a lint roller for such occasions. I've been a therapist a long time and if you're going through something and would like support, I understand and am here to help and support you as you work through whats happening and how to make your life juicy again.

We all deserve to feel aligned, safe and nurtured. Cultivating compassionate self-awareness and acceptance, are at the core of healing, change and growth. When we feel healthy and fulfilled we are more likely to live with meaning. I utilize an integrative lens, centered in mindfulness, somatic, attachment and IFS orientations to promote increased consciousness of thoughts, values, feelings, and behavior patterns. My approach is intuitive, and warm. Our work together involves expanding awareness of the inner mind, and felt senses to move towards a more integrated self. I am tele health only at this time. In art therapy, we make things together to create a bridge to communication, sometimes staying in the metaphor, and other times using the art product as a jumping off point for verbal discussion. When using narrative therapy, we find new and creative ways to look at old, unproductive stories. We create goals together. I provide the solid, predictable framework and ongoing support, as well as parent coaching. We create opportunities for deep insight, meaningful growth and healthy risk-taking.

“Your task is not to seek for Love, but to find all the barriers you have built within yourself against it”, Rumi. Do you find yourself repeating a cycle of staying in disatisfying jobs, or unhappy relationships, but unable to break out? Exploring the root of these behaviors can help free us to be be our more authentic selves. From a place of self love, we can recognize the nature and causes of limiting beliefs, self defeating behavior, and move into deeper, more satisfying relationships, and coming to a greater sense of belonging, joy and love with ourselves and others.

My counseling practice focuses on making sense of anxiety, depression, and the consequences of trauma. Many of the clients with whom I work are adept at masking painful emotions, or they cope with stress in unhealthy ways. I treat individual adults from all walks of life and have extensive experience counseling college students. In addition, I work with wildland firefighters, first responders, and others whose jobs require managing emergencies. Regardless of one's background, talking about problems with an objective outsider in a safe, welcoming, confidential setting can ease the pain and increase well-being.

I am taking new clients after April 15, 2024. I work with anorexia, bulimia, and other eating problems. Many eating problems were initiated by dieting and became an illness when the body's evolutionary defenses against starvation fought back leading to anorexia, bulimia, or binge eating disorder. Our fat-phobic culture preaches limitless perfectibility and a duplicitous diet industry claims that permanent loss is possible and healthy.

There's something you are seeking to understand and discover. Though you may not know exactly what that is at this time, the need and desire to search is there. Something is compelling you to begin the quest of transforming the old and heavy parts of yourself into a more insightful and refined whole. What is important is that you have decided to begin the quest of understanding your past and present, and determining your future.

Kelsea Pelletier is a therapist and supervisor and one of her favorite quotes states, "The quality of our life depends on the quality of our relationships" by Ester Perel. Many of her clients are survivors of narcissistic parents, partners and societal values who experience a deep sense of loneliness, anxiety and depression and may find themselves in patterns of people pleasing & resentment. Some of her client's also often feel lost without a sense of approval from others. Kelsea's clients are striving to feel more in touch with their authentic sense of self by coming to a better balance of internal versus external validation.

People who work with me tend to go beyond just feeling better after improving whatever initially brings them to therapy, such as: stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment & relationships, thoughts, emotions etc. Overcoming that stuff is really just the beginning of the process of becoming your potential. If you desire freedom and a deepened connection to your Self & others, I can guide you to unlocking the chains you didn't even know were holding you back. You can be in the drivers seat again, not your thoughts, fears, or symptoms.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
