My joy and my passion are helping women discover how much is possible when they start loving and accepting themselves. When you love and accept yourself – light side/dark side – with all of your imperfections, that’s when things really start to move and shift. It is the key that opens the door to the wisdom and strength that is already inside of you. When you are disconnected from your love for yourself, life is scary. How will I cope? Or, avoid these uncomfortable feelings? Disconnection often shows up as anxiety, depression, anger, food issues, stress, people pleasing, etc. Are you ready to create some long lasting peace?

I approach every client with concern for immediate difficulties and symptoms, but also believe that one of the central tasks of therapy is to gain self knowledge and understanding. This might include acknowledging emotion, understanding avoidance, and identifying behavioral and relationship patterns. Research studies have demonstrated that focusing on relationships (past and present) increases the likelihood that therapeutic work will be effective.

This can often present in a variety of ways including, negative behaviors at home or at school, depressed and anxious moods, difficulty communicating their needs, self-harming tendencies, and so much more.

Children often struggle with emotions; identifying, expressing and processing their feelings can be very difficult. Anger can rear its ugly head when underneath it may really be a whole bunch of other emotions going on. Some children need to express themselves other than verbally. Play and art therapy techniques, sand tray, and therapeutic games can be used as ways for kids to process emotions without talking or feeling pressured. Children often just need to be heard, given skills, and provided with opportunity for little successes that can increase their self-esteem. Parents are invited to learn valuable tools as well.

Let's face it, life is messy! At some point, we all face the unexpected, whether it be the loss of someone important, a relationship, a job, financial struggles, pain and sickness, or any of the other things that come our way, but we certainly may not choose! It is helpful to have someone to talk to and to offer a listening ear and perhaps some different perspectives during those times. I hope to provide those things to my clients, as well as utilizing my experience and training to help others through the tough times. I will meet you where you are at and help you find where you would like to be. 2 Corinthians 1:4

My counseling draws from internal family systems, person-centered, and attachment-based therapies to create an approach that is both holistic and centered on the science of human development.
Wherever you are in your life, I’d love to get to know you and see what healing we can accomplish together. I am constantly amazed by the resourcefulness that clients have used to survive through the hardest parts of their lives. Oftentimes, making it through also means that we have developed parts of ourselves that are tough enough to cause us problems we can’t solve alone. I see my job as a therapist as being that other person who helps you create a safe and curious space to heal the frustrations between those parts that feel stuck and the parts that help you thrive.

You may be saying to yourself: "I feel stuck. I feel disengaged. The problems seem insurmountable. When I attempt conversation about difficult issues they invariably turn to gridlock. Hurtful words are used by both of us. Withdrawal, isolation and silence follow. It seems we have a crisis over something. Then we have a brief honeymoon followed by a period of tension leading to another explosion. Seems like it never ends. Seems my efforts to engage are met with distancing by my spouse. I feel more and more disconnected, more helpless and hopeless about this relationship."

"...be all alive, body, soul, mind, heart, spirit.” Thomas Merton. If it’s happening, it’s human. And, being human can hurt in a multitude of ways for a multitude of reasons. I believe these reasons can be understood, and through understanding we may gain access to answers and interventions that lead to holistic wellness and ultimately to the wellness of our communities. I strive to support individuals in becoming connected to themselves, to become vibrantly alive with the expanding and creative capacity to discover and align with their values and aspirations day by day.

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.
What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.
How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.
Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
