My favorite part about being a counselor is watching people heal and grow into healthier versions of themselves. I provide support for those who have experienced Trauma, Anxiety, Depression, Low Self-Esteem, and Substance Abuse. I am trained in EMDR therapy, which is my favorite way to address Trauma and heal the nervous system. I believe that nearly everyone has been through some form of Trauma and it can be the root cause of many other mental health conditions.

Growth and healing are best achieved within the context of a relationship. As a therapist with over 15 years of experience, I strive to connect with my clients on a deep level in order to facilitate meaningful and lasting change. I believe we our the expert of our own experience, and I seek to empower my client's in finding their own voice on the way to health and healing while providing guidance and support along the path. From a depth perspective, I take seriously the power of the unconscious, dreams, and synchronicities in a holistic, integrative approach which looks deeper than the surface level of the symptoms.

Are you struggling with issues related to trauma, grief, anxiety, major life changes and/or relationship stress? Do you struggle with feelings of shame and guilt? My practice is grounded in the belief that everyone has the capacity to heal, achieve fulfillment, and to be fully present to life experience. I believe in the importance of our relationships with others and our connection to the natural world and how this connection can be regulating, helping us achieve freedom from shame, depression, and anxiety. Combining nature based work with somatic techniques can help release traumas stored in the body.

In life we encounter experiences that conceal our potential to flourish or succeed and this can make us feel stuck or helpless in a sense of suffering, struggling to get by. These blocks can come in many forms: traumatic experiences, negative messages we receive, illness, relationship patterns, grief, depression, anxiety, among others. Together we can work to find the root of the issue and find healing. I work to serve as a mirror to my clients, reflecting insights about patterns, internal dialog, and behaviors that are hard to "see".

In life, change is inevitable. Sometimes we want it, and sometimes we don't. Sometimes it comes easy, and sometimes it's among the hardest thing we'll ever try to do. Themes central to experiencing change include tolerating uncertainties, having safe supportive others who can witness and support change, and having choice on the kinds of support needed to make sustainable change. I'm pleased to offer Psychotherapy to residents in the State of Montana, as well as Programs and Collective Healing Communities.

A few daytime appointments available in April. Imagine a world where growing up was easy and adulting was just as simple? There would be no peer relationship struggles, everyone had great self-esteem, angelic behaviors abounded, and traumatic life events never occurred. Heck, even our work and home lives were a breeze, we all had uncomplicated relationships, and mental health concerns did not exist. Unfortunately, we do face hard things. Therapy is a way to get help, guidance, and relief as you walk through the daily challenges of life. Are you ready for change? I bet you are!

When I reflect on what being a therapist means to me, the words that come to me are hope, healing, connection, and wholeness. The entire reason that I am a therapist is to help my clients discover that these do not represent mere words, but signify real experiences. I desire that each person I encounter in my work to experience all that life has to offer. However, I recognize that living in this world is not easy, and there is suffering, loss, trauma, disconnection. These experiences, though incredibly difficult, can also be the impetus and foundation of profound and transformative healing.

Do you feel stuck in your life? Are you looking to develop more awareness and insight into your underlying motives, defenses, and desires? Oftentimes we have learned to cope in ways that are no longer effective. I use a blend of therapeutic approaches to help you move from “Dis-ease” towards Ease, “Dis-connection” towards Connection, “Dis-comfort” toward Comfort. To move from trudging through life, or feeling stuck, towards thriving. I would love to help you navigate the challenges you are facing. The goal of therapy is to feel empowered to find healing and solutions to navigate life and live more in the present.

I believe in forming a strong and trusting relationship with my clients. I am known for my warmth, patience, curiosity, creativity and energy. I work successfully with individuals who feel stuck; that something is blocking them from getting to where they want to be. They may have lost their motivation, self-confidence, feel sad or fearful, have difficulties in relationships, or are haunted by things that have happened to them. I am attentive to how each individual takes in information and engage that learning style in sessions. My ultimate goal is to help others be more aware of who they are.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
