I work to provide this safety in a supportive and non judgmental environment which empowers and encourages this. My role is to be empathic and support/guide this growth as well as to give clients a greater understanding of themselves. My goal is to make you feel heard and understood. I meet you exactly where you are at, listen to you, challenge you, and support you in developing a connection with yourself and the world around you. The therapeutic relationship is an opportunity for you to feel validated, trusted, and above all, authentic and connected.  I want to support adults and couples in rebuilding a connection with themselves and to cultivate purpose and curiosity in one another. I help families establish open communication, trust, and create healthier boundaries in order to facilitate more enriched relationships moving forward.

My work is trauma-oriented and attachment-based in its orientation.
I practice a relational form of counseling, which means I weigh heavily on how and why our relationships develop while taking into consideration the mental, physical and emotional associations we draw or conclude from these relationships. The relationship between therapist and client, the relationships you have had over the course of your life, issues and/or concepts you have faced or struggled with, and, most importantly, the relationship you have with yourself are all focal points for counseling. Trust and building rapport with your therapist is paramount and I work to cultivate an environment that promotes respect and self-exploration.

My counseling draws from internal family systems, person-centered, and attachment-based therapies to create an approach that is both holistic and centered on the science of human development.
Wherever you are in your life, I’d love to get to know you and see what healing we can accomplish together. I am constantly amazed by the resourcefulness that clients have used to survive through the hardest parts of their lives. Oftentimes, making it through also means that we have developed parts of ourselves that are tough enough to cause us problems we can’t solve alone. I see my job as a therapist as being that other person who helps you create a safe and curious space to heal the frustrations between those parts that feel stuck and the parts that help you thrive.

I integrate mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment-based therapy, play therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and trauma focused methods.
Each of us have deep-seeded value and deserve to be connected to our whole selves. Often, past experiences of trauma and suffering not only impact our beliefs, behaviors, and relationships, but disconnect us from ourselves. Discovering ourselves can be difficult, but it is an essential part of healing. Our capacity for growth and change is possible with understanding and compassion.

I enjoy working with young adults, couples, and families through an attachment-based lens.
We are meant to share life's hardships with others, rather than be alone with our pain. So much suffering today stems from a sense of isolation and disconnection within our lives. I offer a therapeutic relationship based on unconditional acceptance and compassion; where you can feel support in creating healthier relationships, evaluate what you seek in life, and diminish pressures that hinder your growth and happiness. We live in a stressful, anxiety-provoking time. When we slow down and look at our own core values and how we would like to inhabit our lives, we give ourselves permission to make mistakes and grow.

These challenging times are an excellent time to focus within, on family, and couples work. My role as a therapist is strongly influenced by my experience as a husband and father. My approach is practical, sincere, strength-based and gentle, but challenging. With 18+ years experience, I provide therapy for adults, couples, teens and families. I excel in work with mood disorders, relationships, and trauma resiliency. I believe therapy includes both psychological and spiritual wholeness, which I strive to support in those from all walks of life.

Are you worried for your child? Does your child act out in class, or have extreme meltdowns at home causing your own tension levels to rise? Maybe bedtime is a struggle because your child is scared and has nightmares, resulting in the evenings spent lying in bed with your child, comforting and soothing. Your family may have gone through a big transition like a divorce or death of a loved one, or a move to a new home - or maybe these behaviors are a mystery to you. But they are taking up the focus in your family, causing stress in your marriage, and you're desperate for a solution. You just want your child to feel better.

As a trauma therapist, I have worked with survivors of all types. Many of my clients are social workers, caregivers, therapists, counselors, parents, and helpers themselves. I have extensive training in Attachment Therapy and Narrative Therapy. My two dogs are usually in session with me. They are older and will leave you with "puppy glitter" (dog hair) on your clothing. I have a lint roller for such occasions. I've been a therapist a long time and if you're going through something and would like support, I understand and am here to help and support you as you work through whats happening and how to make your life juicy again.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
