I believe people are more than their diagnosis. Yes, a diagnosis is a tool but it is not the big picture. I come from a place of curiosity and wonder, wanting to know my clients on a deeper level so that I can help them navigate this world. For example, PTSD is a big diagnosis that is thrown around; yet, it doesn't paint the full picture. It doesn't reflect someone's experiences, triggers, how this is impacting their relationships, family history, the strengths they possess etc. Adolescents are my passion however, I also enjoy and work closely with families and adults.

I pride myself on being a very “real” therapist. I am authentic and work hard to make you feel comfortable so that you can be your authentic self as well. I know if I’m not real, I can’t expect you to be either; and when you feel safe to be real with me, we can work on how that carries over to the rest of your life. We will unravel the complexities that make you exactly who you are and arrange each piece in a way that you take pride in, at a pace you are comfortable with. Being confident and calm in your body is your birthright; the journey to finding both begins with getting curious. Let's explore who you want to be and achieve it.

I have a passion for helping people find their way. I have been a therapist for over a decade, helped hundreds of individuals and their families, but I have a particular interest in supporting those that are in the "odyssey years". That period of searching and wandering that often starts in late adolescence and for many, lasts upwards of around a decade. Trying to figure out who you are and how that relates to or is impacted by your family, your friends, your job/career, and your life aspirations can be simultaneously exhilarating and overwhelming. You are in the driver's seat, I can just help you navigate the twists and turns.

It is important to me to build an open, inclusive, and non-judge mental environment through focusing on your whole self. Creating a safe and supportive space is my first priority. From there we can process stressors, explore growth points, and pursue goals. I am a gentle and compassionate listener who works hard to understand you and your concerns. I can help you sort through your thoughts and feelings so that you can make sense of the past and implement a plan for the future which includes clarity and compassion for yourself and others.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
