I am a professional licensed counselor who does individual counseling working with adults. I work with clients struggling with domestic violence, trauma, PTSD, relationship issues, adjustment issues, and attachment issues. I am eclectic in my approaches depending what the client's needs are. Some of the approaches I use are CBT, TF-CBT, Family Theories, and Inner Child Work. I am also trained in EMDR. It's important to me offer clients a nonjudgmental space to be able to heal and meet their goals.

I seek to do whatever possible to help you feel safe in counseling. The relationship between you and I needs to be one that feels warm, inviting, non-judgmental, and encouraging. From the safety of this relationship, you can then feel supported enough to grieve what has been lost and push to fight for the things that have been taken from your life.

You may feel like your relationship is stuck in the same rut and you are having the same argument over and over. It can feel hopeless, hurtful, and lonely. Life can feel difficult when you and your partner are lacking connection. As a team, we can reach our identified goals and target these concerns head-on. I work with couples who struggle with infidelity recovery, negative communication patterns, and connection difficulties. Additionally, I work with individuals who struggle with anxiety and depression. Our minds create patterns that can be difficult to break on your own. Let me help! (Day-Time / Limited Evening Availability).

Much of humanity struggles with a level of suffering that takes place as a result of over-identifying with the mind. Often this can make us feel that we are powerless to our hard-wired patterns, chronic and pervasive emotional states, addictions, and self-sabotaging behaviors. True peace and change are available to you when you begin to understand how the brain and body work, and how they become stuck in states that do not serve you. My philosophy is that we must understand how our brains and bodies work in order to move them in the right direction.

I went into the field of psychology because I love helping people transform to the best version of themselves. We all need a safe place to understand ourselves and how we relate to others/self. I often say "We need to be Mindful of our Total-Well Being and that our minds and our bodies are an inter-connected systems. Where the mind goes, so does the man or woman in their actions and body states. We go to the physician for our physical health, so how much healthier would we be if we went to our psychologist for our mental health?" At heart, I am a holistic practitioner and love seeing my clients Thrive.

I use a systems and developmental approach that integrates attachment-based, mindfulness and somatic practices.
Welcome! Do you feel misunderstood and undervalued? Are you looking for more meaningful connection? Anxiety, pain and relationship stress can show up in our bodies, our work ethic, our social interactions, sleep habits and so much more. What happens to us early in life influences our ability to cope with the stress and setbacks that life can throw at us. Whether it's a chronic health issue, recent or past trauma, grief, or an ongoing stressor, you don't have to experience it alone. I have an integrative and person-centered approach that uses the therapeutic relationship to build your sense of agency to get yourself unstuck.

I am honored that my clients share their deepest secrets with me every day. I am grateful for the trust they place in me and I value their need for confidentiality. I make an effort to listen to my clients and hear what they say to learn what they need to grow. Every client is a person who is much greater than their problem behavior or diagnosis. While I have extensive training in treating trauma and sexual behavior problems, I also have experience and training in treating other mental health problems such as: Depression, Anxiety, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Panic Disorder, ADHD, and chemical as well as process addictions.

Empathy, authenticity, and unconditional acceptance are the fundamental qualities I cultivate in my relationships with my clients. I try to create a safe place where you can be vulnerable and feel validated while also gaining room for self-compassion, hope, and healing. My approach to therapy is holistic, though I am drawn to attachment and person-centered theories within a multicultural and existential framework; everyone's story is different and well-lived. I strongly believe in the possibility of change, despite what we have lived or what we are currently living through.

Reaching out for support takes strength and courage. I respect this, and my aim is to create a calm, inviting atmosphere where a deep sense of trust can grow between client and therapist. I believe that pain shared is pain lessened and that people can and do recover from issues that have been troubling them for years. I have found that many people enter therapy not because of a complex mental health issue but because of a general feeling of life not being what they would like it to be. Let me be a catalyst of change for you.

How do you know when you need help with your mental health? Is it in times of hopelessness or extreme isolation or sadness or when things suddenly take an unexpected turn? How do you know when you need to be “seen” for who you truly are by those who matter most to you? Many of us don't know what to do when these very human needs surface. It may seem too late…but it is never too late to invest in your emotional health by enlisting the help of a Licensed Professional Counselor. Self doubt and hectic schedules may make us question how valid our emotional needs are, but if your heart and mind are speaking it is time to listen.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
