We might be a good match if you suspect that past experiences are affecting you, if you are seeking a deeper connection with yourself and others, or if you’ve tried other types of therapy but haven’t experienced lasting healing. I believe the body naturally wants to move toward healing and use this approach through my work with trauma, anxiety, and stress. I am passionate about equipping people to work through past, present, and future challenges and strive to be a peaceful and supportive presence in the process. I believe therapy is a place for laughter, tears, connection, and healing.

I specialize in working with adults living with anxiety and/or struggles in their relationships (familial, romantic, platonic, occupational). Breast cancer survivorship is an area of specialty. Together we co-construct an approach that fits your needs, balancing the practical with exploratory. I believe that it is through self-exploration that you become aware of your stuck points whether in problematic and/or unfulfilling behavior, relationships, jobs, or experiences.

You have made the brave decision to seek support and you are worth it. Meeting with a therapist can be intimidating; it requires strength and vulnerability. We are imperfectly human and we deserve to work towards honest self-acceptance, empowerment, and esteem in a safe place. Anxiety, codependence, depression, grief, isolation, and feelings of powerlessness can leave us exhausted and at a loss for answers. It can be easy to forget that we deserve "to be loved, and to feel worthwhile" (W. Glasser). I invite you to remember that when experiencing stress. It would be an honor to be witness to the growth of your self love.

I approach treatment through an attachment-based, trauma-informed, psychodynamic lens and collaborative framework, recognizing that you are the expert of your life experience.
We are wired to repeat deeply learned patterns that, at a certain point, no longer serve us. Whether it’s in your personal relationships, or your relationship with yourself, at times you may find yourself feeling stuck in a repetitive loop, with outcomes that feel undesirable or out of your control. Together we can identify and explore these patterns in order to define your goals and work towards meaningful growth.

There's this lingering sense of negativity, self-doubt, and not being good enough. Stress is accumulating and the demands you're facing are outweighing your resources. Your drive to reach goals, connect with others, and enjoy life is declining. You notice that same cycle of perfectionism, anxiety, and shame repeating itself, causing you to feel trapped, overwhelmed, and powerless. It's not just affecting your mind. It's also taking a toll on your body and your relationships. Avoid the burnout. Make a choice to make a change.

Whatever struggle is motivating you to start counseling, something inside is knocking. The knock may be feeling depressed, anxious, angry, or overwhelmed. It may be feeling disconnected in relationships and from what is meaningful in your life, a sense of emptiness or lack of purpose. It may be unresolved trauma. To answer that knock means to turn inward, which can be challenging and uncomfortable at times, yet I whole-heartedly believe the life you seek is patiently waiting. The pain you are experiencing is actually an invitation for healing and growth. Answer the knock. When things break down, breakthroughs happen.

I believe almost all problems are solvable. If you decide to see me for therapy, the first thing I'll probably ask is, "What's going on? Why have you come?" Perhaps you're having difficulty with a relationship or your struggling with a child or your weight. You may be trying to decide if you want to continue in a relationship or look for another job. Or you've noticed that you're drinking too much or getting too angry or obsessing. Maybe you're feeling anxious, depressed or lonely, and despite your best efforts, you can't seem to shake these feelings.

At some point in life, most of us will find ourselves stuck and overwhelmed. The ways we have navigated life aren’t working, and the uncertainty we face is too much to bear alone. We need space to wrestle and a calm presence to join with us as we consider the way forward. For others of us, life has felt like one hit after another. We need a safe place to fall apart and permission to grieve at our own pace.

I work with adults, adolescents, and children. Often, as adults, we find ourselves stuck. You keep trying, yet things aren’t getting better. Usually, this means you have developed a self-limiting belief. Let’s talk. Together we can identify the root of the issue, develop new core beliefs, and create a plan to develop a more fulfilling life. Children and adolescents need a safe space and a person that accepts them for who they truly are, so they can express themselves openly. I focus on helping them see their true worth to enhance their growth and development, while teaching them skills to express emotions and cope with stressors.

Are you suffering in silence? People see your successes but do not understand the questions, doubts, pressure, pain, and internal turmoil that you experience. Does your circle assume you are ok? You have been identified as “the strong one” … there is no need to check, right? Wrong! Do you fear being vulnerable with others? Are you suppressing your emotions? It may seem too painful to imagine experiencing the intensity of your feelings or maybe you just do not have the language to express them. Cue up “emotional rollercoaster”. Are you envisioning a life of wholeness, authenticity, fulfillment, and emotional freedom?

I believe therapy is a collaborative process where people can learn more about themselves and how to live differently. This change occurs through the therapeutic relationship. I help people understand how to help themselves and alleviate their suffering.

When we are suffering in this world, there are usually patterns of suffering that have hold of us. If we confront the patterns, they can teach us. I know it takes courage to walk through the door of a therapist's office. Let me give space to face the hard stuff.

Many individuals suffer under the heaviness of their anger, sadness, fear, and pain; others battle to feel anything at all. Self-esteem, relationships, or work can suffer when early cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns are applied to new situations. Although it may be intimidating, exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences within the context of a safe therapeutic relationship can increase your awareness and perception of control over your internal world. Throughout the therapeutic process, you will find your strength, resilience, purpose, and, ultimately, your freedom to shape your external world more effectively.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
