Hello! I'm Vanessa, co-owner of Secure Counseling Clinics. I've lived in KC for 20 years with my husband, 4 children, 3 dogs, 2 cats, 1 bearded dragon, and a flock of backyard chickens! I'm a Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in both MO and KS, Nationally Certified Counselor, Certified Clinical Mental Health Counselor, and KS board-approved clinical supervisor. My heart work is helping humans with complex trauma. Couples, as well as parents and their children, work with me to form secure attachments with each other. I help clients experiencing relationship difficulties and those who experience pain from circumstances or losses.

As a certified PCIT & Perinatal Therapist, the majority of my work is with women in the reproductive years, and parents in the early years of parenthood. I enjoy working with women and their partners through all stages of reproduction; trying to conceive through postpartum. I also have a passion for working with parents and their young children who are struggling with disruptive behaviors and are looking to improve parent-child relationships.

My name is Caleb Stephens, and I am an Intersectional Clinician. The reality of therapy is that it is inaccessible to most, and the majority of therapists gear their therapy around themselves, and not around the needs of the client, nor the layers of identity that exist. I am not a traditional therapist, as I am also an Activist, and the majority of the work that I do is Identity work. This is about meeting you where you're at, and I'm here for it.

Therapy can truly be life changing! I believe that a warm, accepting, non-judgemental, safe place to express one's true self is invaluable. That is my approach as a therapist. I have found that each session may be a bit different. We may focus on current life circumstances, process childhood trauma, or make goals for the future. What you can expect from each therapy session is to be heard, seen, validated and sometimes gently challenged.

I love working with children and adolesecents, the more problematic and difficult the kids, the better. I enjoy interacting with them in ways that help us get to the core problems, while implementing coping skills into their daily life to decrease the daily struggles they have at home, at school, with their peers, and out in the community. Empowering them to find their values and integrate them into their daily choices. I also enjoy working with women. Empowering, strengthening and uplifting them to live their full potential, while processing major life events and changes that might be hindering their ability to be successful.

My passion is to provide kids and adults with the help they need to navigate through difficult times whether it be related to family, school, mental health or substance use. As a licensed specialist clinical social worker, I have experience in a wide variety of support and counseling services, including assessment, crisis intervention, and individual, family and group therapy in both inpatient and outpatient treatment settings. I have conducted anger management and substance abuse evaluations, and I have facilitated group treatment programs.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor who works with adults, adolescents, children and families. I am now offering Direct Neurofeedback, which offers a drug-free approach to improving brain performance and forming new and enhanced patterns of functioning.

Play is the place where children’s minds, hearts, and souls meet. Through Play Therapy, children are able to heal from distressing events such as, but not limited to, trauma, grief and loss, divorce, depression, adoption, foster care and attachment issues; and to improve in myriad areas such as impulse control, emotional regulation, ADHD, OCD, and ODD. As your child’s therapist, my goal is to enable children to heal, so that they are empowered to “rise and shine” to their highest potential.
